Digestable and Interesting... although perhaps rushed
Essentially, this book is much more digestible than your typical opening book. It is something that I think most club-players will easily understand (especially with the board images, just after a few moves). And the author doesn't attempt to oversell these gambits. Essentially, if you like tricks and want something to annoy people with, this may be for you.But there appears to be an error on one of the first tactics (page 2-3), which makes me wonder if this publication was rushed.1. e4 e52. Nf3 Nf63. Nxe5 Nc64. Nxc6 dxc65. e5 Ne46. Be3 ...I learn something in chess everyday. Apparently bishops can hop over pawns =p.I think the author forgot 6. d3 Bc5 7. Be3

Not a Strategy Book
This book is just several games... its not like analysis per se.

The only book dedicated to the Stafford Gambit but it's a good one.
In the book "Gambit Chess Openings" the authors dismiss the Stafford Gambit thusly: "Black gets absolutely nothing for the pawn except a half open d-file" This is more or less true. They also note that "Recent experience favors Black who wins by a 4 to 1 ratio". This is also true! The fact is that this gambit, which is more or less refuted from a theoretical perspective, wins lots of games anyway. The reason for this is that Black wins if White makes natural moves in many of the variations. The second reason is that there are a LOT of traps for White to fall into. Combine these two factors with the fact that White players are highly unlikely (in 2020 so far) to know any theory on this line and you have a recipe for a fearsome weapon, particularly at fast time controls.Mr Gifford notes all this and has written the first text to address the lack of prior material on this opening. Inspired by IM Eric Rosen, he has done yeoman's work in assembling relevant games, identifying tactical motifs, and doing independent research on this opening which has nearly zero theory on it. Mr Gifford is not a GM but he is a strong player and an expert on unorthodox openings and has long experience at both writing and researching this topic. If this book was terrible, I would recommend it anyway simply because it fills a huge void. Fortunately, the book is well organized and researched and particularly valuable given the coverage of the BKG White version of the gambit (which appears to be sound- probably due to the extra tempo). It is well thought out and is enlivened with cogent analysis of games by the author, IM Rosen, Paul Morphy and others. If I have a criticism, it is that the diagrams are a bit dark and small for my taste. I wish the contrast on them was higher but they are nonetheless readable.White will catch on to the refutations eventually , but before they do, I urge you to pick this up and win a few hundred games with this first before they figure it out. Highly recommended!

A very simple and clear layout
This book gives a good survey of these gambits in a very direct way without endless lines to have to go through. I also like the fact that the opening is presented from both the black and white sides. The reasonable price is also a selling point.

Doesn't work against engines.
The Stafford is great and might be good to play against people but not engines.
