Does this work on cheap 1-2 inch thick wood?

The blade is designed to cut metal, but will cut wood. Thickness of wood is limited by depth from sharp edge of blade to bottom of the frame - about 3/4 inch. However the part of the blade that extends past the frame is not constrained, and the blade can be pulled out of the handle to a length of about 5 inches. So you could cut through a piece of wood nearly ten inches in diameter, working your way around. Cost of wood (or more to the point, its hardness/density) would be unimportant for this blade. I'm not aware of any wood blades in the form factor of hacksaw blades.

Will this cut through a swing chain?

It's a good hacksaw blade in a good handle. It will cut through metal with your help. If the swing chain is on the swing rather than held in a vise then holding it still while you saw will be the challenge.

Will this cut pvc pipe?

The blade that came with the frame was hopeless. It was the most cheap looking hacksaw blade. You may have to buy a nee one and can use it with the frame
