I decided that I did not want to cut a opening on the side of my sub-woofer for the Dayton Amplifier face-plate, so I went to Home Depot and found a hard plastic box type container that was very close to the dimensions of the Dayton Amp and mounted the face-plate to it with screws. Secondly, I drilled a hole on the side of the plastic box to run the wiring out from the Dayton Amp to my sub-woofer. Thirdly, I ran the sub-woofer wiring from my home theater system amplifier to the connections on the front of Dayton Amp and connected the sub-woofer wiring to the wiring connections on the back Dayton Amp with the wiring coming out the hole I had drilled. After pricing out some active subs, this ended up being about 20% of the price of them. The day I got it, I plugged it in and turned it on, and like magic, my sub was working again. I didn't want to modify my sub, so I built a separate box for this amp out of a 24x24 inch piece of plywood that I picked up at Lowes for $3.50. My artsy girlfriend stained it with some ebony stain, and now it looks like it belonged with the set all along. Interestingly, this thing actually gives my sub more power than it had before, when it was hooked up to a Sony receiver. With adjustable settings, you simply couldn't ask for anything better for only $30. I'm thinking about buying a few more of these simply to convert some older passive subs into active subs for my friends.
