Looks great, performs well
Definitely like this. I've read the other reviews from the US and Canada, some like it, some don't.I like it because it's different, it's well enough put together for the price and it was actually made in Canada. Well, my one was anyway. I've tried it with alcohol gel, a chafing fuel can and a Dragon's Breath fuel cell. I also tried a Trangia type alcohol burner which gave the best results.I can't seem to get the Sterno canned heat in the UK. I actually don't think it's available. The alcohol gel (bio-fuel gel) placed in a small apple pie foil dish (thanks Mr Kipling) worked ok, the same as the chafing fuel can which is just alcohol anyway. But the Dragon's Breath fuel cell, (which is also alcohol gel and which I also placed in a small apple pie dish as it melts and runs everywhere), seemed to boil the water a bit quicker. It just seems to burn hotter.I also tried a small Trangia type alcohol burner, using meths as a fuel, and it worked the best, boiling the water faster due to the rocket effect of the flames. Again, I put a foil disc underneath the burner to reflect the heat away from the plastic base.Back to the chafing fuel. You can get the candle type cans with a wick which contain liquid alcohol and burn like an old school meths burner, or the larger cans with the removable lid that contain alcohol gel. See the photos for the two types and sizes. The snuffer supplied with the stove will work with the smaller chafing fuel cans but not the larger ones. Also, you can replenish the chafing fuel cans by simply adding more liquid alcohol or gel alcohol, rather than buying more cans. The cans cost between £1 and £2.50 each, whereas a 1 litre bottle of bio-fuel gel or liquid is about a £6, sometimes less in bulk. And you can fill a small shampoo bottle full of gel or liquid and carry it with you.The chafing fuel cans with the gel are better, in my opinion, as there's more surface area revealed when you remove the lid, and therefore more area that is actually burning, rather than a concentrated wick that burns with a relatively narrow flame. However, I did place a thick aluminium foil circle on the base of the plastic burner section, (the grey part of the stove at the bottom) as even though it seems to be heat resistant plastic, it might get affected by the chafing fuel can or the foil dish heating up when the fuel is burning. I just like to be sure. The stabilising legs on the grey burner section work well when opened out, but I would add a loop ended tent peg over each one for added stability. Please note the manufacturer recommends not using chafing fuel or alcohol gel, but seriously, is this just so you buy their Sterno canned heat? As I had no issues using alcohol with the precautions mentioned. I just suggest you try out a few different methods and decide for yourselves.Personally I think you should invest in a cheap Trangia type alcohol burner and use it in this Sterno stove. Meths is only £2.50 per half litre and it gives the most cost effective results.Edit. Someone mentioned in the reviews that it melts when used with a gas stove. It's not supposed to be used with gas. A gas stove reaches temperatures this mug wasn't designed for. Thermal feedback is an issue.

using with meths burner; very efficient
It states on the user leaflet NOT to use any fuel source other that the Sterno tins.Sorry, i have been using a meths burner.works brilliantly (couple of You Tube videos review this stove with a meths burner which is why i bought it)very efficient - with enough water for two mugs, water boils in four minutes.I have also cooked small amount of pasta in it.Safety point to note, i wouldn't do anything that took more than say 10 minutes as there is risk for thermal feedback if the meths overheats.

Simple, effective and light weight
Basically, a good stove, but let down by detail faults. As has been pointed out in reviews on YouTube (and ignored by Sterno), when the stove heats up the lid gets tight, and is difficult to remove. Although hot water can be poured out through the three small holes in the lid, it comes out very slow and dribbly, because there's no easy way for air to get in.I drilled an air inlet hole in the lid on the opposite side to the three moulded holes (which helps), but what fixed it was to sand down the four pairs of vertical moulding lines around the lip of the lid. Now the lid lifts off easily, even when hot - so why didn't Sterno sort this out themselves?Next problem, also down to Sterno - when closed up after use, the three legs fold inwards, and the lid is supposed to be pushed onto them; on mine, it was far too tight a fit, and risked breaking. More sanding called for, this time on the outside of the legs. It all makes me wonder if the people at Sterno ever tested the stove themselves? It's a real shame that owners have to sort out these problems, as the basic concept of the stove is very good, dead simple to use, very efficient thanks to the pot design, easy to store a couple of cans of fuel inside it, and the only way it could fail to work would be if you physically broke it.Final complaint, and this is down to Amazon; Sterno say that you should only use their fuel. Whilst you can get similar 'chafing fuels' from other makers, some tins are too tall to be able to light them through the lighting port on the outside of the stove - a useful feature. But Amazon only sell the Sterno fuel cans in packs of 288, for £236.83!! What the HELL???? If you used the stove for an hour a day, seven days a week, that lot would last you about 18 months! It's a real shame that this basically well thought out stove has such niggling and easily preventable faults, as it's basically a very handy bit of kit - and ludicrous that Amazon sell the recommended fuel in such a crazy pack size.

Don't waste your money
Took two weeks to arrive as it ships from the US.The markings are just wrong.100ml is actually 200ml300ml is 430ml.I can live with that, what I can't live with is when the bottom melts around the heat exchanger when on a gas stove. The instructions clearly state that you can only use gel fuel inside the wind shield and not spirit burners etc but nowhere does it state you can't use is on a normal camping type stove.I've never come across an aluminium cup that melts before.

Amazing
The Inferno, is a perfect addition to my camping gear. I do alot of backcountry camping, which requires me to carry in my gear. The Inferno is lightweight, compact, affordable and can bring snow to a rapid boil in 6 1/2 mins, and water to a boil in as little as 4 mins. It's perfect for hot drinks, soups, porridge, and much more. You can also use the pot for cold drinks, and cereal. I will definitely be recommending and buying this again in the future, as a gift for others.

Great performer and low weight and low cost - just needs some modification
I’m super impressed with this product and I think its my new main backpacking stove, but I needed to make some minor changes. What I like:1. Quiet with sterno fuel or alcohol burners (like a Trangia).2. GREAT performance with alcohol burners. Fast boil times.3. Very light after some simple changes.4. Durable enough for its intended purpose.5. Affordable!6. Design – pot stand doubles as wind shield and fits in the pot for storage. Does not require the unrolling of a flexible windshield and a separate pot stand.7. Capacity of 2 cups is just right for solo or a couple. What I don’t like:1. The gray plastic base is not useful. One of the 3 legs flexes too much to keep things stable. It also adds to much weight to the package.2. The lid is dangerous and heavy, but easily solved. See below. The Lid: The idea of a strainer lid is nice, but the execution is terrible. It weighs a ton. It gets stuck on if you boil with the lid on, which everyone complains about. The first time that happened to me, I thought, “No big deal. I’ll just pour this boiled water out through the strainer slots in the lid.” The lid has no air entry hole opposite of the strainer slots. As I poured water into a mug I was holding, air was eventually able to enter and suddenly changed the pressure. Boiling water forcefully shot out and burned my hand holding the mug. This must be why the lid has “Remove Lid Before Pouring” on it. Too bad you CAN'T. I have not bothered drilling an air hole since the lid is too flawed otherwise with its weight and getting stuck. The correct thing to do is to replace this lid. Like others, I use the Batchstovez 10cm lid. It fits like it was made for it and it totally affordable. Others make their own lid from various materials, including aluminum foil wrapped around a disc of cardboard.About alcohol burners: They explicitly say to not use alcohol burners since there could be a thermal runaway. This is when too much heat reflects back to the burner and vaporizes fuel too quickly. It can cause quite the fireball. This is a real risk anytime you confine an alcohol burner in a small space with too much heat reflecting back to it, so Sterno is protecting themselves from liability by reminding you of this. That said, I have used lots of alcohol burners with it and have never had any issue. In fact, the performance is remarkable since the stove is getting some feedback heat. In room temperature conditions with refrigerated water, I need less than an ounce of alcohol to get 12oz water to a rolling boil. I have not yet tried a full 2oz fuel load. That might be riskier.Caution: Do not use with canister stoves. The heat exchanger coil on the bottom can melt off with such intense heat. There are plenty of ‘tube videos showing that. The Pot: FYI, the gradation markings on the pot are incorrect. It turns out that the metric lines should be imperial lines and the imperial lines mean nothing. The metric lines are correct if you use the neighboring imperial labels. Here’s what I mean. Using a kitchen measuring cup, I measured the amount of water in the Measured column and poured it into the pot. The Indicated reading is according to the pot lines.Measured Indicated8oz 100ml12oz 200ml16oz 300ml100ml ~50ml200ml ~95ml300ml ~180mlWeights: Here is what each component weighs. If you ditch the wonky base, dangerous lid, and snuffer that is useless with alcohol stoves, then add the 10cm Batchstovez lid, you cut the package weight by a third.Part GramsGray base 57gRed lid 56gSnuffer 11gRed stand 53gPot 114gAlum lid 17gOriginal configuration 291gLightened 184gWeight reduction 107g or 37%Pictures:1.
