Yes there is such a steel flywheel key. You don't want a steel key. You want a aluminum key so it will shear when mower it something hard so you won't damage engine. Fly wheel key keeps engine in time.

Q: Is this a replacement for b&s p/n 796335?

I've used these keys on a variety of Briggs & Tecumseh engines from 3 to 11 horsepower. Make sure you tighten the flywheel nut, with an impact wrench preferably. The purpose of this key is to establish the proper relationship between the flywheel magnet and the coil. for correct spark timing. It's designed to shear if the mower blade for example strikes something solid to protect against engine damage, or in the case of a snow thrower, something getting jammed in the blower wheel where the shear pins won't protect the engine.
