Sunset Western Garden Book of Landscaping: The Complete Guide to Beautiful Paths, Patios, Plantings, and More

As a Master Gardener this book is helpful in working with clients that don’t know the climate or what they want in their landscape scheme. It’s loaded with great pictures of many different landscapes. It’s more of an “idea-book”, instead of a how-to book, which is fine. This book is realistic & helpful about respecting & enjoying the myriad difficulties of the climate zones of the western US. Lots of beautiful pictures!

Thorough, in-depth gardening guide. Species-specific recommendations, a great section on local climates, easy to navigate once you get the layout of the book. Recommended!

Even thought I am originally from New England, over the years I have I generally enjoy most of Sunset's gardening guides and this is no exception.The book is geared to the California gardener, not really to gardening in the "West". In that regard it was helpful for us (we just moved to Northern California) but it would be of little use to someone gardening in Nevada or Arizona. I am delighted with the information I've gleaned from the book as it is appropriate for our needs, but it would probably be helpful to have that referenced in the title of the book.

Excellent book! We are moving to a new house and we very exciting to make a new landscape and this book is helping us to make the right decisions to what, how and when to plant. Has a lot of pictures and ideas. It’s a complete encyclopedia! Worth the money

Beautifully illustrated book of ideas for western/dry country gardens. Lots on hardscaping, architectural design as well as the use of plants. Sections of fire-resistant plants, privacy and pets are especially appreciated, considering the region in focus. The section on the latter is thinner than I would have wished, but still very good. A fine, overview of western gardening with many interesting and practical ideas for planning, building and planting.

This book had lots of pictures of landscaped yards, but is more appropriate for Arizona, California and more southwestern states. It's not very helpful for high altitude, dry desert and mountains like you would find in Wyoming.

Love this book - it includes lots of ideas, sketches, good thoughts. It summarizes many of the Sunset articles, but in an organized way. We're using it to help convert our front lawn into a beautiful, edible garden along with a couple of other books, including The Beautiful, Edible Garden written by Leslie Bennett and Stefani Bittner.
