Fantastic
I had never bought hiking boots before so did a lot of research and noted little things like comments about locking the heel in for down hill and the need for that extra eye to do it.Finally settled on the Merrell's because of a combination of price (as a first time hiking boot purchaser, did not want to go top of the range in case I did not use it much)and positive feedback, both on line and a colleague that has a pair. They are fantasticAnkle eyelets do lock the heel in and it is a great feature as your feet don't move as much when walking in general and in particular down hill.Did not really need 'walking in although I did a few 2-4 km walks first withing 4 days of receipt I was doing long hikes through varied terrain and had no corns, grazing or other issuesWalked through mud, streams and in wet weather (with wet weather pants) and never once had wet socks/feetBreathable so no sweaty feet or socksI know 'breathable' and waterproof' normally dont go hand in hand, but it works!Would definitely recommend

Most comfortable boots I’ve ever worn!
I’ve had these boot for a few weeks now and I have to say that they are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn! I wear a size 8 1/2 but always get a 9 in hiking or running shoes so they give my feet room to move. I have completely flat feet. These shoes have a perfect arch support for my feet. It’s a moderate support. It’s not too high where my feet hurt after wearing them for hours. I’ve worn these shoes all day and haven’t had any issues with sore or hurt feet. They look good with jeans so not only are they comfortable to take hikes in but also wear them with jeans and a comfortable clothing for day to day wear. I’ve worn them in rain and cold. They are water proof and warm when it’s cold outside. The shoes look exactly like the picture, came quickly and were well packaged.

My wife loves them
I purchased these for my wife as a gift for Christmas. She loves them and won't take them off. They are very comfortable, keep her feet warm and provide excellent support to her ankles (which pop in and out of socket now sometimes because she was a dancer and cheerleader). We hiked all around Death Valley this week (including through rough terrain and snow) and she was very comfortable. I am looking a pair of similar men's boots for myself.

Great comfortable hiking shoes
I have narrow feet and heels. These shoes fit me perfectly. I ordered a half size up to wear with a hiking sock. They fit great. I think I could have gone a full size up with a heavier sock but I am satisfied. I wore them today on a walk in the hills and they are so comfortable. I am very pleased!!

Great quality, comfortable hiking boots.
Nice boots, roomy toe-box, & lace up well. Super comfy right out of the box. I regularly take an american women's size 8 in everything, and I sized up a half size with these per experienced hiker's recommendation and got the 8.5 (I was told the foot slides forward on declines and if the toes hit the front of the shoe, you'll be in pain quick). The 8.5 is perfect! Glad I purchased.

Did not work for me. Ruined the first part of a long awaited hiking trip.
I expected to love these shoes but they rubbed my right ankle and I got blisters on both big toes after I thought I had them broken in. I bought them specifically for a hiking trip, wore them on multiple 4 mile+ hikes and to work a half a dozen times before my trip. Hit the trails for a 12 mile hike and was in a lot of pain from my ankle rubbing, and blisters had started. The last three miles was miserable because of the ankle pain. Had to hike back out the next day and just had to deal with the ankle pain, then blisters got bad despite Band-Aids and moleskin. Trip has definitely been much less enjoyable because of foot and ankle pain. I'm headed to buy new shoes in the morning before any more hiking on day 4 of my trip. I will say the Merrells kept my feet dry and the traction is good, but I won't be able to use them for their intended purpose so they are already a worthless waste of money for me.

Brilliant!
I went up half a size from my shoe size to accommodate walking socks. Walked miles and miles over the Somme this November and had no issues. Didn't even rub and I have notoriously delicate feet. Saw two people in other types of walking boots slip on wet grass and fall over, these were so grippy that I felt like Spiderman!! Feet stayed warm and dry.Definitely recommend buying these!

Incredibly comfortable. Order half a size up.
These are great! I took on board the previous reviews and ordered a half size up. I'm glad I did; it leaves me with about a centimetre from my big toe to the end of the boot. I also need to wear wider fitting footwear (bunion unfortunately) and these are perfect. These boots have been amazingly comfortable from the minute I put them on. I've been able to wear them out on several muddy dog walks with having to 'wear them in' first. They were a little tight around the back of the ankle to start with (I seem to get this with all boots that come up and over my ankle), but that only lasted a few minutes. The tread is great; I feel safe in them (very wet and muddy ground is quite slippery!). I just rinse the bottom of them with the hose when I get home as its much easier than letting the mud dry and then getting to clean it off. Occasionally when doing this I can feel cold where the water splashes on the top of the boot, but so far my feet haven't gotten wet.All in all, I'm so pleased. They are bloody brilliant, really comfy and do exactly what I wanted them to do.

Started to disintegrate within a year
While these boots are comfortable, reasonably lightweight, and sturdy, I've sadly found mine now disintegrating. They're no longer waterproof, so I suspect the Gore-Tex membrane has become impaired, and the leather is peeling away, especially around the area where the toes bend from the foot, which is a common problematic area on hiking boots.I've had several pairs of Merrells over the years and have always found them reliable, so these are a bit disappointing. I do hike every weekend, usually at least ten miles a day over a variety of terrain, and these have done several quite gruelling trips in the Lake District, rambling through water and up mountains, but I'd expected better longevity from these.

OK but I wouldn't buy them again
I purchased these mainly for dog walks. I typically walk 5-6 miles a day irrespective of the weather across varied terrains from local streets, muddy fields, hills etc.The fit was fine my feet are wide but the usual half size up dealt with ant issues. They were comfortable from the first but I found I needed more cushioning so replaced the insoles and always wear good cushioned socks. They're mostly waterproof. They withstand rain and most puddles but you feel the damp creeping in after a few minutes in wet grass. They do dry out pretty quickly. My gripe with them and the reason I would not buy them again is the lack of grip. Whether it is a small mud patch, wet leaves or there's been a slight frost, I felt I might as well have been wearing ice skates for all the grip these provided.

Great pair of boots… strand comfortable …
I already have a pair of these moab boots and wanted another pair so I could alternate them…also, my size never seems to be in stock so when I saw these I purchased themExtremely comfortable and sturdy…the insoles could be better to give a more supportive foot so I placed a pair of other orthotic insoles in place. They are slightly longer in the foot length as well which gives even more comfortThese are the best walking boots on the market in my opinion….not worn them in the rain yet…However it’s a personal choice and not everyone’s feet are the same …..good price as well
