Beast of a knife
Came a bit dull out of the box. However, after sharpening the blade, it chops wood with ease. I love the ergonomics of the handle which allows the user to adjust their hand position in accordance to what tasks they are doing. Whether it chopping wood, fine work, or batoning it gets the job done. It does an okay job when it comes to fine carving and feathering. It feels sturdy when in use and I have no questions about its durability what so ever. The nylon sheath that came with the knife was a bonus. I like how it's simple and came with both a shoulder strap and a leg strap. One thing this knife provides that an axe does not is the length of the blade. This knife provides more blade real estate compare to a axe. With the long handle it provides grip control to make it easier to baton larger logs. This is a beast of a knife.

Large Chopping Genius
No recompense have I received whatsoever from this review! I only review gear I like.I was on the fence with this blade for a few months before I got it. I needed a large heavy duty chopper so I gave this one a try. Great chopping blade, Like others, I was concerned about how the 1070 steel would hold up, but it is tough enough to chop for hours with minimal chipping. You will probably need to touch up the edge frequently, but Jess-X is very easy to sharpen and stays sharp about as long as you would expect for a $50.00 knife. The handle is comfortable and grippy, but I did have a slight problem with the hook rubbing my pinky finger (even through gardening gloves), this was easily corrected by slightly grinding down and smoothing out the inside of the hook. The handle design gives me much more leverage when chopping which is helpful for conserving energy. Basically if you are looking for a large dedicated chopper and you don't mind sharpening often, this would be a good option.

Almost a one tool option.
This is it boys! The closest to an "one tool option" for a survival tool/knife. Schrade and Chris Tanner from prepared mind 101 did a great job with this. It's an unusual looking knife and I was a little worried about that. This knife came hair poping sharp the first schrade to come that way in my experience. Yes its heavy but it easily replaces the need to carry a hatchet. This knife may seem like a YouTuber is just trying to cash in on his little bit a fame. That's not true, this knife chops, batons, and can be used for finer tasks. Just look up "Jessica x" on YouTube. All the proof that you need is there. At 50 some dollars (at time of review) I feel it kicks more expensive knives butt. Yes its made in China but what isn't? This knife is phenomenal. If you are on the fence, pull the trigger! You will be pleased!

last Schrade purchase
Schrade wanted to save money, and I'm going to save a lot of money not buying their products ever again even if they fix it, if you lose my trust once you loose it forever!besides the bad grind, this knife was incredibly dull, took several hours to sharpen. when finished putting a new edge on it i tested the knife and was extremely disappointed.#1 got stuck in knots while batoning#2 can't use the tip to dig into wood the hollow tip is way to weak#3 the black coating came off on the first baton!!!#4 couldn't make feather sticks#5 couldn't even slice taco bell paper receipts smoothly; even when sharpened with a $200 machinechopping was the only thing it was good at; but i can buy a $10 Walmart hatchet with half the weight that performs better in choppingeven comes with a sticker that warns you to wear glasses, cause this knife chops some serious bits from wood? was the sticker a joke?this is the worst knife i now own, the $20 Pakistan knives i bought from eBay are officially sharper than this knife.worst of all it still has Chris Tanners name on it and i don't blame him for this

Does a lot, but only OK
I wish I could give a rating of 3.5. I think a 3 is too low but a 4 is a bit too high. This is definitely a cross between a big (huge) knife and a small machete.- This is a heavy knife. The heft makes it good for chopping. If used as a knife or for clearing the extra weight is fatiguing.- The handle is unusually large. It may have been designed so you can use both hands. Again, great for chopping but ackward for use as a knife or machete. The angled handle gives you great added leverage for chopping but it's a drawback for other uses. It's made from durable plastic.- The sheath is decent. It's made from nylon with low grade stitching. If you are someone who keeps their knives really sharp, pulling the blade in and out will cut the nylon and stitching apart. The blade is made from respectable steel. For practical purposes it's probably more than enough for most people who aren't knife snobs (I think I've turned into one). The blade is easy to sharpen and I've not had problems with the edge going full.I'm glad I bought this "knife". I'm an amateur collector and it looks cool on display. The price is more than reasonable. It won't be using it much beyond the test weekend. A hawk is by far a better tool for chopping. Any of my bushcraft/survival knives are much better for all other uses. It's not at all comparable to a real machete.I guess I would close by saying this is a lot of knife for the money. However, it's a tool that can do many things but doesn't do any of them all that well.

Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but ...
Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but it seems well built and sold. Just what you would expect from Schrade.

A quality tool of excellent design
I own and use many types of knives. This one will have a lot of uses around the house and yard not just hiking and the trail. One tends to get a mental picture of what does and doesn't work. Just looking at the picture I could tell the designer Chris Tanner had created a real working design. The three position handle design is common sense and logic nexus, it just feels good in the hand excellent balance with true full tang solidity. The crook on the end is perfect for retention and gravity or inertia hand re-positioning. The sheath is made of good solid tight woven material. The shoulder strap is a good idea and will allow one to carry it without a belt. Both real men and real women will enjoy and find good use for this quality tool.

Hohlschliff

Not a knife, but a solid cutting tool.
Don't treat this like a knife and you will not be disappointed. It feels great in the hand and bites into the wood quite deep at the blade's sweet spot. I accompanied this tool with a Morakniv classic on a long weekend camping trip and it turned out to be a good combination for collecting and processing wood.

Not Sabre ground
Bought out of curiosity. This is the inferior hollow grind version that the designer warned everyone about, will return.
