The Tale of the Mandarin Duck: A Modern Fable

Both the illustrations and the lesson taught in this beautiful book are so enlightening. I bought a copy for my grandchildren and another child. All of them were thrilled to read the story adnd are looking forward to visiting Central Park in NYC, hoping that they can also see a Mandarin duck. Than you Bette Midler for this tale.

This is an absolutely beautiful, touching book. Written so clearly ... to be enjoyed by all. I can't wait to read it to my granddaughter. Thank you Bette Midler♥️. Not only will my 3-year-old granddaughter enjoy it but my daughter who loves Bette Midler will be thrilled!

I bought it, NOT knowing what the whole storyline was. I live in NYC and was well aware of this visiting mandarin duck, but didn't know the imaginative places Bette Midler was going to take this tale. I'm going to give it to my niece who is about to have a baby -- I can imagine this will be a favorite bedtime story for the new little guy about to join our world, and it's a wonderful story for kids of all ages, including their parents. Plus, it's something to hold on to forever and take to The Antiques Road Show a hundred years from now. So take good care of this book!

It's a precious book! I like it so much (it's a gift) that I am ordering one for myself for the coffee table even if it is targeted for children. I love the story and the beautiful pictures.

My son(5 yrs) loved this. He was mostly impressed by the drawings. He imagined who lived in the buildings and which one he wanted to live in. He made his own stories about all the people. We both enjoyed the tale of the duck as well.

Both my 4 and 7 year old granddaughters like the book. Aside from written text, we discuss the illustrated people and their groupings and what they might say. They wear unusual clothes too. This stresses looking up from your phones and looking at the world - a good message.

The message and pictures are equally beautiful. I love NYC, and reading this to my one year old made me want to plan a trip! This book is advanced for my daughter. She enjoyed the pictures and I’m sure will love the message as she gets older.
