How do i request no dented cans?

Good question, whoever packs these should include more padding around them. I often get dented cans too.

Could I use these babies in homemade tomato sauce?

I use them mostly in chicken noodle soup. But I am sure they would be fine in tomato sauce. Just don't expect them to taste the same as regular mushrooms. They hold up pretty well to boiling and stirring.
