We have a 30 lb mix that has the jaws of a bear. The regular raw hide bones, compressed and just about anything else they sell for dogs to chew on, and the little guy devours them in less than a day, even the ones ment for 50 to 80 lb dogs (beside the super gigantic ones that are bigger and weigh more than my dog to begin with). We came across antlers as an alternative to the rawhide like bones. We were lead to believe antlers were practically undistructable so ee gave it a try.First off, they do wear down. Which is fine, we were only looking to find a sonething that would actually ladt more than a day. The antlers definitely meet that requirement for us. At minimum our little chomper gets a good week before it becomes to small and we take it away. Now there is variation among the ones you get (both in person and shipped to you) regardless of how you buy it. Besides the obvious size differences each will have, some are much harder than others, I haventbfigured out how to determine this prior to purchasing, we only findbout how hard they are comparatively after he starts to try and destroy it. We have one that is only half gone that weve had for 6 months now. And another for 2. Other than those he finishes off his usually monthly delivery in about a week or two.Antlers are definitely the most durable product in thier category of similar products.

A good option for a "power chewer"
My dog eats raw meat. She powers through anything I give her in less than 10 minutes, even meat with bone, which means she doesn't get her teeth as clean as they could be if she took more time. I bought this product to give her more chewing time. When I first took it out of the package, she responded with interest, but then when I handed the antler to her, she seemed to lose interest, as if she didn't know quite what to do with it. Eventually she took it outside and buried it. The next night she brought it back in, and I took it away and put it in water (advice I got from others) to soften it and release some of the flavor. After that, she was more interested and will now gnaw and gnaw on the antler, and lick the marrow. I limit her time with it in case she chews hard enough to break a tooth. She started with the wider end of the antler. The product looks almost exactly like the photo. It is about 7" long and a good size for a small to medium dog with strong jaws (we have a Jack Russell terrier).

Durable and great value
We purchased two antlers for our two beagles a month and a half ago. The only thing our dogs love more than the antler chew are stuffed animals that they can unstuff in a matter of moments. We switched to these chews/toys about a year ago. First we purchased from the local store on recommendation from dog trainer. They loved them and were entertained by them daily, the chew lasted about 6 months but were pricey. Then I purchased another antler chew online for a much lower price, our dogs chewed through those in only lasted a week or two. This antler chew has been out for the dogs for about 6 weeks, shown little wear and will last several more months. These are the same quality and as durable as the ones in the store for a much better price.

I think its better to use this produce rather then raw hide every ...
happens to be my dogs most favored chew toy. He had been working on it for two or three weeks now and he only seem to have put a dent in on the large end. Seems to have a bit of pink or red bone marrow were he has been working on it. I'm definitely going to get another one. Oh my dog it just a pup about 4 months old lab/border collie. I think its better to use this produce rather then raw hide every day. He does chew on it everyday and it's better that he chews on that and his other toys then my stuff. If you have a puppy get him lots of chew toys more the better. its only natural for them to chew. If you really think about it their mouth is like the only hand they have to touch feel sense/explore their world. That being said get a muzzle too for when he is on time out. After a while you can just wave it around in front of them and they will understand. If they keeps barking or anything you would like to correct you have the muzzle to put him in time out. works really well. another good tip. free training clicker on a Snapple bottle (some are louder then others you might have to play with it a bit to get it to work. find the sweet spot on the cap. to bate the clicker so it works. click it treat click it treat. just for no reason just to let him know when he hears this sound something good is coming his way. then simply whenever they do something you like click it as they are doing it. that is important. then treat! =D

Ordered 2 to see the luck of the draw....
I ordered 2 to see what the "luck of the draw" would be. Both antlers/"horns" 6-7" in length, one antler tapered 1/2" to 1 1/2" the other 1 1/2' to 2 1/2". The antler that was skinnier has lasted a bit longer do to the fact that my dog likes to roll the thing in her mouth and make noises like it's piece of candy, this antler has staying power. The thicker one was very brittle and broke down into pieces that were jagged and a bit sharp, lasting about 3 days. I had stepped on one of those little pieces (in the middle of the night) and wound up with a small cut in my foot. Not sure about ordering from this company again. I might try another co. to see what is sent and the lasting power, then decide which is better. (At the lasting rate of the thicker "horn" I might as well go back to ordering cow hooves "hoofies" in bulk again. I had bought "horns" from a pet store by my house who had been getting his horns from someone who had been processing deer meat. He would clean the horns well, slice them up, and at $15 per horn they were lasting 3 1/2 to 4 weeks, we had been spoiled. Unfortunately he had to stop selling them. In my opinion this is how long an antler should last!)This review was for a Border Collie and Border Collie/Hound mix. They are larger dogs about the size of German Shepherds. If I can't find a solution before this next winter I'm in big trouble.
