This book arrived today & I am delighted! I'm not a magazine subscriber, & Quiltmaker isn't the quilt mag available at our library. So it's all new to me!Page after page of great designs for variety of tastes/styles. Potential layouts/variations on the same page with adaptable full-size design. So much endless potential to customize & make them your own. The organization & indexing is fantastic. This book reminds me of the OLD pattern books, "Here are the block/pattern designs to get you started. Now go, do with them what you will."It is a design library. There are no instructions about how to quilt, or how to mark your fabric. Only brief couple of pages addressing pattern usage & adaptation.Everyone's taste & style is different... And frankly even "modern" seems to indicate several distinct styles right now. Perhaps this might fall in "modern traditional" or "Fresh Classics"?As for usefulness in machine quilting versus hand quilting... Depends on your own creative inclinations, style, & skill level.Personally I saw plenty of useful material for machine work... But only if you are comfortable plotting your own stitching pathways, continuous line adaptation, and have a design eye for positive-negative space usage... Or don't mind starting & ending threads.My only "issue" is the book's binding. The pages are "booked" so that they won't fall out - but in this case that quality touch might be a drawback! It will be difficult to get nicely flat for tracing & copying machine. This is compounded by designs being situated near the spine about as often as near edges of pages. But worth it to have these designs at hand in my permanent collection! Will keep me occupied for years to come.

If I had to limit myself to only one quilting book of designs . . .this would be the one I'd choose. This book is worth twice what I paid. The instructions for the 501 designs in this book are easy to follow and include line drawings that can be easily traced. The chapter on various feather designs is worth the price of the book alone! There's everything from nature, to classic and even whimsical. The designs aren't only well done, but every single one is applicable and practical and a quilter or beginning quilter won't have any trouble following the designs.When I received my copy, I'd brain tied trying to decide what to do on a border. With the deadline quickly approaching, I ordered this book and knew within 15 minutes of thumbing through the book, exactly what I'd do.Highly recommend this book for quilters of all levels.

After buying a gazillion books, THIS is what I’ve been looking for. A book of simple patterns, in real size, for a beginner to trace and quilt. It’s even spiral bound for ease of use. Thank you, thank you.

gives a good overview on quilting motifs and some good ideas. The sections were divided so it was easy to find what you wanted without looking thru the book..I.E. you could just go to the children's section if you were doing a kids quilt

I had been searching for just the right motif for a quilt project and could not find anything I liked. I found 501 Quilting Motifs and figured there had to be something in it that would work for my project. I received it very quickly and was not disappointed. It had the exact pattern that I had decided to draw freehand and try to use. Now I can just make a copy of the motif and start marking! There are a variety of motifs. There are also examples of how to use the motif or parts of the motif in various size blocks or borders. I would recommend this book to both novice and experienced quilters. Novices will get the ideas they need and experienced quilters will get new ideas and inspiration. I am glad I bought this book and look forward to using it. It may be the only book of quilting motifs that I will ever need!

This is a very useful format with sturdy, water resistant, hard back, and spiral page attachments. The already to-scale images can be easily copied for creating templates. Contains a wide verity of innovative designs including many traditional standards. Contains only two pages of very through and well organized instructions with all of the remaining pages saturated with templates. A great buy that is definitely worth the price.As a regular machine free-motion quilter I of course would have preferred that it contain only continuous line designs, although the hand stitching designs were impressive and in some cases can be adapted for free motion and visa versa.

El libro contiene muchos dibujos para acolchar tanto a mano como a máquina. Lástima que venga en inglés, aunque a tratarse de dibujos tampoco importa demasiado. Va encuadernado con espiral, lo que ayuda mucho si hay que copiar los dibujos porque permite ver la página con todo su contenido. En cuanto a los dibujos, viene el dibujo en tamaño real y luego dibujos con las composiciones para que te hagas mejor idea de como quedará una vez finalizado el trabajo. En definitiva, un libro interesante para las que hacemos patchwork y acolchamos mucho.

on est toujours en train de chercher un motif qui s'accorde au style et à la largeur dont on dispose sur un quilt , là c'est parfait , plein de motifs floraux, fruits animaliers avec les angles proposés ... etc...je crois que tout y est même les cercles en fin de livre , parfait , je le recommande d'autant que sa présentation du livre avec spirale s'avère très pratiqueje recommande
