These are AWESOME!!!
These are AWESOME!!! Didn't even know these existed until recently and I bought them for my son and I to practice our karate moves without the expense and effort of finding real wood boards all the time. This has been non-stop entertainment for my son (8 years old) ever since they arrived. He was determined to keep working until he could break the black board (the thickest one). This has been the perfect way to practice our karate and build confidence. These are so satisfying to break apart and relieve some aggression and boy energy! The boards break apart and snap (very similar sound to real wood cracking apart). They slip back together pretty easily my son can put them back together himself although they are tight and do take some effort. They feel very sturdy and well made like they will last a long time.Seriously could not be happier with this purchase....hours of entertainment and exercise!

Great for the price
8 year old girl using this who has a few years of taekwondo experience.Pros:* It's a lot of fun for her. It's a great feeling when you hit it just right and the board breaks with a nice snap sound.* It helps with technique and accuracy. If you don't use the right technique and kick it in the right spot, even the yellow and blue boards become hard to break.* Room to grow. She's breaking the blue boards with some kicks on the first try but not all. hasn't broken the red board yet with any kicks. We're a ways off form the black board. Kids are going to be at different levels with different kicks so you have a range of boards to work with. Not just depending on their level overall but on their level for each kick.* easy to use. Very easy to put the boards back together.* value. For the price, the quality is totally fine.Cons:As others have mentioned there was some bubbling of the foam on mine out of the package. Nothing worth sending it back and nothing that impacts use.Other:have only had it a few weeks so can't comment on how durable it is.

Great "re-brake" boards, should last a long time.
My kids and I love these. It is a set of four, with yellow being the easiest to "break", then blue, red, and, finally, black. The mechanism that holds them together is a simple but ingenious symmetric tongue-and-groove type of joint. The fit is tight, so, it can be a bit tricky to reassemble them after they are "broken," but a bit of practice and maybe a hard surface are usually all that are needed. The colors on the boards are also thin (maybe 1/8th inch) foam and are on both sides. This lets you orient the boards in any direction you like and still have padding.I'm not much of a martial artist, but I'm a full grown fellow and I can easily punch through the yellow and blue. These are more for kids to build confidence, etc. I can also easily punch through the red, but it will sometimes not break if I am sloppy with my aim or timing, so, I think that would be good for casual adult practice of forms. The black is much thicker and, I believe, at least as hard to break as the few pine boards I have broken in the past. I can punch through the black board too, but maybe only half the time (which is good -- I have a goal to practice toward). They all "break" with a loud and satisfying CRACK. The first few times I was sure I'd actually broken the joints, but it turns out these are very tough and they have, so far, reassembled cleanly each time. Some folks have said you can combine these (e.g. the yellow and the black, the blue and the red, etc.) for a greater challenge. While I'm sure that's true, I'd be careful about it. Most dojos which combine boards do so with small spacers between them which are not compressible (as is the foam on these). Also, if the center joint of the front board were not aligned with the joint of the board behind it, I think it might be much harder to break. So, in all such cases I'd recommend good warm up, and start with some test kicks (even wearing shoes) until you know how the combined boards behave. They are tough enough to take some experimental abuse, and all an injury is going to do is slow down your training.

Sturdier than I thought.
Bought this product for my son who needed the practice so he could get his intermediate belt. I tested them out myself, and as an adult with hard knuckles, I will say that they are a lot harder to break than I had imagined. After a couple of weeks of my son practicing, he was able to break the black board along with putting multiple boards together and breaking all of them simultaneously as well. By the time my kid took his next belt test, it was like slicing a piece of cake. Overall I think the purchase was worth it.

Need a holder device to use. Shape is Square.
Nice to have for adults to practice more powerful breaks. It is supposed to be equivalent to 3 one-inch pine boards. Like any rebreakable board, you must hit this exactly in the middle for it to break. This feels very different than breaking 3 wood boards because the break action is different (with multiple boards the back board breaks first) but it can help you train for breaking multiple boards. I used this to practice for a 4 board side kick break, and had no trouble with my break after practicing with this board. You will need a holder device for this board. It will be difficult for a single person to hold this board still enough to break. We used a wooden holder and had a person brace it against a wall. It is also more square than rectangular, which also makes it awkward to hold.

Lots of fun
I got these for my Dojo to play with. Our martial art doesn't traditionally involve breaking boards, so these were just for fun. Two of my third degree black belt instructors spent a delighted HOUR challenging each other to more and more difficult combinations of boards. No one else got to play! (They couldn't break through all four at once, so that's their goal for next time.)I will say the first few times you break the boards, they're very difficult to slide back together. But it gets much easier with use - give it a few rounds and you'll be good to go.
