Best Django Book ever
I decided to move my skill level from Ruby/Rails, PHP Zend world to Python/Django world. (Python has become such a popular language)In the process, I worked through multiple books, most of them targeted at the absolute beginner. I bought this by "accident", one my best accidents in a long time. This book gives you recipes for each and all any developer will need to build powerful applications, as well as deploy and manage the deployment servers. The recipes are excellent and to the point. Over the past 25 years as a developer, this is probably the most comprehensive manual I have ever encountered. Not for the beginner, for sure, but all Django developers will eventually need a book like this. Thanks to the authors. It is a "steal" on Kindle for $15. I was getting frustrated with most other books/manuals available. This book solved that problem...

Highly recommend
This is more than what I was expecting! If you're an experienced web developer and you just need a kickstart with Django development - this is it. Just check "Table on content" - you'll get a very good idea of what's inside.Big thank you to the authors! Great work

Fantastic Intermediate Reference Book
If you’re looking for a more detailed explanation of Django concepts, this book builds up your understanding more completely. My path with Django started with the initial Django documentation, and, while good, just was a lot to handle. Then I came across this book and more fully/completely was able to make those connections to concepts better. While I definitely wouldn’t start with this book or use it as a primer, if you’re looking to upskill or increase your understanding of Django, it’s definitely worth a spot on your bookshelf.

good reference
The book gave me a pretty good current (April 2020) Overview of Django and Django Rest Framework. As both technologies are still under heavy development finding print books is not easy. It should still be read with a Django Documentation looked up every now and then.

NOT For Beginners
If you're looking to learn Django, this is NOT the book for you. It states that clearly in the introduction though. This book is fairly in depth and offers a lot of information to give you a deep understanding of things you can do with Django. Honestly, most projects will never need this level of complexity of some of the examples this book offers. Some of the examples seem overly complex. It's nice to see different ways of doing things, but some of the code/ways of doing things/formatting seems unnecessary. It's worth a read if you're building a serious project just to give you a better understanding, some ideas and/or maybe you'll pickup something useful you didn't know before.Again this is not for beginners. The book moves quick and assumes you already have the understanding of the basics of the framework. Unless you just want to have an extra resource, there are a lot of other books that offer clearer formats for learning. Django For Professionals offers concepts of ideas in a clear way, teaches you just enough, and offers resources of where to go for additional information as your project progresses.

Not what was promised.
When One of three ‘Key Feature’ listings of a book is “Learn to deploy, scale, and secure apps using... Amazon Web Services (AWS)” you would expect the book to mention AWS at least once. The only mention of Amazon is a plea by the authors for a review on this website. They didn’t deliver but readers certainly will. This thinly written and poorly organized text is easily replaced with a few well worded internet searches and minor effort in free tutorials and online documentation. This was easily the most disappointing title I’ve seen from Packt. I’ll be seeking a refund.

A good reference but lacks teaching
The book seems to have a lot to offer. It covers a lot of topics about Django and how things work, including some good detail. This is definitely not a book to help learn more advanced topics about Django, as it does not really teach. It does not work through a project, nor does not seem to explain things as part of the larger context of a project. It just explains each function of Django, with some best practices. Also, there seem to be some issues with the ebook version. Every so often in the first chapter it would have the command "django-admin.py startproject myproject" inserted in to the most bizarre locations. (I know it sounds strange.)For the price, it's not bad and I'll be keeping it as a reference manual, but I'll be buying another Django book on advanced programming topics that has a project flow to it.
