Year 5 school pupil’s review- ‘ I just wanted to keep reading and find out what happens next!’
Written by Jack- Year 5 pupil.I have read Oranges in No Man’s Land, which is about a family who are living through a civil war in Beirut. The main character is a young girl called Ayesha and the story shows how she is coping with looking after her family during a civil war. It has a very sad start that makes Ayesha and her family very upset. She finds that it is not easy because looking after her brothers and granny can be hard work. My favourite part of the book was when Ayesha had to get some medicine for her granny from the chemist. This was not just a normal walk to the shops...Elizabeth Laird is very good at describing Ayesha’s fears because she made me feel worried for her. She also describes the horrible flat that Ayesha and her family live in very well. It makes me feel sad and I feel lucky I don't live there. Elizabeth Laird uses powerful words to describe things so I can imagine what it is like.I would definitely recommend this book to other people because I just wanted to keep reading and find out what happens next! This book is happy and sad and I enjoyed reading it!
