Exact what I’ve been searching for
I’ve had this lamp for many years. I have one at each work station in my art room for about 10 years. I’m not exactly easy on them either. In the last year the spring eventually broke but still worked. Screws fell out and lost so I glued it together. I fixed another part with a zip tie. What I’m saying is that I really love this lamp that I rigged it till I no longer could. I searched and searched and all the others were led (which I hate because they give me headaches) or they have switches on the cord (I hate unkept cords). I ordered a lamp that seemed like it could work but it was comically small and the fixed light source was like looking directly into the sun. The only thing that could make this lamp better would be if it was a three way switch, but I’m thrilled to have found the same lamp I originally purchased from Menards. I will say it’s more sturdy if you can remove the padding on the bottom and skip the clamp and screw it right into your table if you can.

Sturdy Lamp. 95% Metal Construction.
It cost less than my last desk/drawing/work light and is way better. It's made of all metal parts, except for the thumb/wing nut style things you turn to tighten the small bolts at the elbows, the pegs that the springs are mounted on, and the table clamp. I recommend buying a solid metal table clamp for it. They're cheap on Amazon. Those and the on/off switch are the only plastic parts. Especially like that the little arm that holds the lamp to the end of the arm is what looks like stainless steel, since it gets turned a lot when you're working to get the best light angle. The lamp almost turns 360°, it will turn up but not straight up to the ceiling. Highly recommend this lamp. Super affordable, gets the job done, and high quality construction. I looked at LOTS of swing arm lamps that cost more but unless you're loaded $ no need for anything fancier. This is the best most cost effective lamp on Amazon at the time I bought it a few months ago. It's seen loads of up/down/forward/back/turning and still looks & feels new.

Very nice for the price
This is a very nice, sturdy little lamp, especially for the low price you pay. Unlike some of the other reviews I've read, I had no problem at all with the mounting clamp - yes, the clamp is plastic but it's good quality, easy to attach, and easily bears the weight of the lamp. The bulb that comes with it is nice and bright and stays fairly cool. My one complaint about it is that there is no way to anchor it in place horizontally. If you want to adjust it vertically - the height above the surface - there's no problem. There's no way to make it stay in one place horizontally, though, so if you have a drafting table or studio table that's inclined at the top, the lamp swings downward into your working space. The quick fix is to clamp the lamp on the side of the table rather than the top. Other than that, I'm very pleased with the purchase and would definitely recommend the product.

Excellent!
I returned 3 others from Amazon. This one is slightly better quality than the others. it's a little more maneuverable than the others too. But even more important for me is this one will also point basically straight up to the ceiling.I usually don't take the time to review items, but I had to on this one. Studio Designs swing arm lamp rocks!

The version that comes with a bulb is fantastic
I purchased the version that comes with the bulb because I don't like having to buy things separately I just like a single package deal so I can take it out put it together and it's good to go straight out of the box. I had viewed some other reviews that had stated that it did not come with a clamp but it did and I ended up wasting money on buying extra clamps I didn't end up needing. Maybe the version that doesn't comes with the bulb doesn't come with the clamp either, but I don't know. It was very easy to assemble straight from the box and works perfect for my drafting table even when in a upright position. I think my only complaint is the bulb is only a 60w brightness, I prefer brighter, but that's just my preference. I actually ended up buying 2 for each side of my drafting table which gives me all the light I need to create my art.

I'd not have another if they paid me to take it. J.U.N.K. to the tenth power!
What a pain in the butt this piece of junk is. >.< I got a desk, chair, and this lamp from Studio Designs. We had the desk and chair assembled in under 15 minutes. They are great quality and look very nice. The lamp? Not so much. It arrived with missing pieces. I called the number on the "if you're missing pieces" flyer in the box and they promised to send the pieces. Still haven't gotten those yet. The paint on the lamp was all scuffed and scratched. The hood would not stay on no matter what (and yes we did follow the directions). It was also dented, which might be why it didn't fit. The bulb worked at least. I carried it to the office to attach to my new drafting desk, tightened the clamp, and it swung down the table! I looked- huh... nothing to hold it in place! I called the company back, thinking it was missing another piece since the bar of the lamp base has a cut-out that lines up with a hole in the clamp-- obviously meant for some "piece" to hold the lamp arm in place. Nope. They are just made that way. No magic piece to hold it in place. So, if you look at the lamp, it moves. Totally useless on a desk that adjusts vertically, don't you think? My husband who is a crafty and mechanically inclined genius spent thirty minutes rebuilding the dang thing so I could use it. Had we not been in a time-crunch for when I needed it, we'd have sent it back and got something nicer. If you aren't in a rush take your time and get a better lamp. If you're looking for a frustrating, broken, obvious piece of junk-- this is your lamp. Ugh.

Broke first use
The lamp itself is alright, personally I don't like the warm bulb but I'll change it out with a daylight bulb later on. The stand that the light post sits into broke off right out of the box. Since my Studio Design desk can be adjusted the lamp does swivel where I don't want it to.

Good lamp....period.
Old fashion design but I am sure it will last a long time. I added a LED bulb and that is why I like this style. Perfect for the work bench or a desk top. I replaced a similar lamp that was 25 years old...hope this will last even 10 years. Built in LED's look good and work well...but when those LED's burn out and they will...you have to buy another lamp and the design you purchased may no longer be available... with this style I only have to replace the bulb.

Quite happy with my purchase
Used it for over a year and a half. Quite happy with my purchase. I wish there was a guard or a refraction for the light. Sometimes having the light just above eye level can be intense. I put rice paper just outside the outer rim out the lamp so light can go through but not harshly. The clamp for the base could also be better. It does not grip well when tightening but once you get it on, it will stay. The small rod connecting the lamp to the clamp is adjustable in different position depending on how you would like to clamp. Due to this, the rod is not tightly fitted into the hole but does the job and will stay in the position required.

Plastic lamp base clamp will need to be replaced
Lamp itself is great and came with the light bulb, however the base of the lamp is plastic and sits on top of the desk making it unstable. Had the lamp for less than 4 months when the 1st piece of plastic broke and within a couple of weeks it completely shattered not surprisingly. Unless the manufacturer of this product modifies their base either look else where for a completely different design or purchase a more solid base right from the start. I ended up finally finding an inexpensive metal base that did the trick.

Crappiest lamp I've ever seen
I mean, 40 dollars something is not a lot of money for a lamp these days. Turns out this thing doesn't worth more than 10$. The clamp on this lamp is so crappy that I can't see it lasting more than a week. If I wanted a cheap lamp, I would have gotten one for 20$ at Canadian Tire, and it would have been sturdier.

Surprising quality
I've had one of these before from a Swedish big box, mostly plastic, broke with extended use. This though, is all metal construction. Appears to be built to last. Accomodates a 100w bulb. Well painted and finished. Would buy again, but probably won't need to now.
