Aeon Flux - The Complete Animated Collection

Brilliant avant garde sometimes confusing, always entertaining show
Bought this years ago but thought I might as well review itI really like this show, it has a very unique art style and has some great philosophical points in each episode whilst some are what I’ll refer to as an incoherent trip, mesmerising nonetheless.I love most of the voice acting and writing. There are quite a few special features including the original pilot, the shorts and commentary to gain some more information about the episode and making of the episode.Last year it was announced they are making a live action television show and I hope it gives this amazing animation more exposure.

Compelling adult entertainment (kids can watch the movie...)
I caught the animated series in dribs and drabs when it was broadcast on various channels, but being able to watch all of it over a reasonably short space of time improves the experience 100%. Can't recommend watching the whole thing, end to end, in one go... not unless you want to scramble some synapses and confuse yourself completely! It's both visceral and highly visual, and if you watch too many episodes in one hit then you run the risk of numbing yourself -- pace it out over a few nights, however and you can really enjoy immersing yourself in a creatively chaotic world. If you want a cartoon for kids then this is NOT the right programme -- it's sexually explicit, violent and emotionally challenging. The live-action movie is more suitable for children, with its streamlined plot and 2D characters who fall in love and live happily ever after. The animated series takes huge risks and so (ironically) portrays people who are far more real, even though they live in a futuristic world of make-believe. The romantic love/hate relationship between Aeon and Trevor is compelling -- and always spiced by the fact that one of them might kill the other! The graphics and animation are delightful; the overall scenario is intriguing, and many of the plots are worthy of a 90-minute feature in their own right. Aeon Flux is also downright weird: it's a visual feast with plenty of intelligent comment and complicated storylines. The plot isn't laid out on a plate for you -- the viewer needs to do some work too! This is far from mindless entertainment... and there are plenty of twists waiting, so you never quite know how an episode will turn out.Teenagers will love it; grown-ups need to watch with an open mind.8/10

a mind bending animation series - 4.5 STARS
This series started out as short clips in MTV's "Liquid Soap" tv series which contained a bunch of animation. The series didn't last long but Aeon Flux was such a hit that it spawned its own 30 minute series. This show is hard to explain without giving too much away but it grabs the viewers attention and holds it until the end. Nothing else comes close and it cannot be duplicated (just watch the hollywood movie version and see what I mean) although many other series have tried. Basically, this woman warrior (Aeon Flux) is sent to stop the Leader of this brave new world type of future society. Who does she really work for? What is really going on? The tension between Aeon and the Leader is fascinating considering it is anime. The series does, in my opinion, falter somewhat after the grand revelation but that does not subtract from the genius of this show. This series certainly stands up to the test of time (it's got to be close to a decade old) and I highly recommend it if you're looking for something different. I'm not an anime fan and this isn't my ususal fare, but I still enjoyed it!
