The Ranger Panty is a favorite of military personal. It is made of loose fitting soft tricot and it won't snag or run. The Ranger Panty features an internal liner, improved pocket for keys or ID, and will be the only thing you'll want to wear. The Ranger Panty is often referred to as silkies, silky smooth, we just call it the best selling Soffe men's short.

Great summer comfort
Edit: 7/23/2013* Improved clarity of some of the text* re: can you see through the shorts. The inner and outer shells are of the same light nylon fabric. If you hold each layer up to the light you can see through them. With both layers in place, under most lighting conditions you cannot see through them. That said, if there is a strong back light and if you really look closely, you still can somewhat see through both layers. My personal feelings are that most people don't stare that hard to try to see through your clothes. If they do, that really is their issue.* re: colors. I now have shorts in each of the three colors (black, navy, OD green). Black and navy are pretty true for color. The olive drab is really drap (I still like it, but it really is drab). It would be nice if there were more variety. Would love red, blue, yellow and a brighter green.Original:You are supposed to be a runner to wear these shorts. I definitely am not. However, I sometimes do walk. This review is for those that are NOT runners. Why did I purchase the Soffe Men's Running Shorts? Men's clothing are pathetically conservative. Most men's shorts are heavy. Some almost as long as pants. Wouldn't you want to feel cool and comfortable on warm days? In the winter you put on more clothes to feel warm. In the summer, you wear less. Popular shorts are just not comfortable in when it is warm.My current shorts are from years ago when fashion did permit a man to wear more comfortable clothes. All of my comfortable shorts are wearing out. The elastic is gone. If not careful, the shorts will depart as well in a way that may not be too dignified.I need replacement shorts that are actually comfortable. I purchased a pair of the Soffe shorts to see if they meet my needs. The shorts arrived rolled up in a tiny package. Trying them on, they really are short. Very short. They really cannot get too much shorter. The material is stretchy, light and soft. Somewhat shiny. The shorts have an adequate inner lining. There is a worthless key pocket that is too small to hold my car key. The medium that I ordered turned out to be a perfect fit. Although the material is translucent, between the outer shell and the inner lining, you cannot see through the shorts. Even when backlit. You can easily see all curves and shapes through the material. If in public and if concerned, wear a longer shirt. I really don't care if someone looks at me and wonders why I am wearing these shorts. They are totally comfortable. You barely feel them. Or should I say that they feel great.Washing instructions are wash cold then dry low. You can easily hand rinse and it will dry fast on its own. Does not appear to be any fraying or problems after a few washings.Negatives: No draw string - if the elastic becomes brittle there will not be a way to keep these on. Also, the pocket is worthless. My wife hates these. She also hated my older shorts. At least she cannot complain that I am always wearing ancient clothes. These shorts sure are comfortable. I really like how they feel and how they look. Once home from work I immediately change and relax. I like them enough that I already bought a variety in each color.

Comfortable Shorts, but Needs More Support
Based on the picture, I expected this to fit tighter than it did. Not terribly baggy, but I like snug like it shows in the product picture. The leg holes are bigger than they show in the picture. I'm about a 34" waist and usually a medium fits me about right in most clothing. So I ordered a medium in these. I now think I should have ordered a small and they may have fit better. The medium waist still has a lot of room to expand, so I'm sure fitting into the small would not be a problem. I may order a small soon to try that out. If I do, I'll update this review. What I do like about them is they are very thin. In fact, a bit see-through. More on that in a bit. But you feel like you barely have anything on, they are so thin. Even more so when you pair them with a thong. So they are extremely comfortable. I like wearing them around the house and some appropriate outings. I don't run much, but I do Zumba. They worked well for that purpose, but due to the shortness, I wouldn't use them for Pilates or Yoga--some positions would show off too much. I'm sure they'd work well for running, their designated purpose, and probably for weight lifting, though certain exercises could also reveal what's "under the hood" too.The other negative I noticed is the inner liner is not very supportive. Elastic leg holes in the liner will prevent anything from falling out, but it will all be bouncing around down there as you jog or jump in Zumba. For those activities you'll need to add in some supportive underwear if you want to keep things orderly while doing anything bouncy. One warning on the last point. I cut the liner out since I was going to use my own underwear for these. In hindsight, I think it would have been better to have left the liner in and just put in on over my underwear. Mainly because the material is already a bit see-through. Cutting out the liner makes them more so. In general, one cannot see much detail, but if you end up getting back-lit, people happening to notice will be treated to the outline of your body beneath the shorts. If they get up close, for whatever reason, they might pick out shapes depending on the lighting. If I had left the liner in, that would not be possible. Of course, some may consider that a good feature rather than a problem. Depends on your modesty level. Also, it should go without saying, these shorts are very short. If you want something going past mid-thigh, or even reaching mid-thigh, these are not the shorts you are looking for. They are exactly as short as they look in the produce picture. I find it strange people will complain about how short they are, as if it wasn't obvious that they were from the picture and description. All in all, I like these shorts and will likely try a small on for size, and leave the liner in even if it isn't needed for anything else than keeping things more hidden.Update: 6/9/16I did order the small version of these shorts in navy blue. With my 34" waist, they fit perfectly as I had expected from what I saw from the mode wearing them. Much less baggy than the medium. Exactly what I wanted. They've become my new favorite shorts to wear. While the inner liner is snugger than in the medium, so it doesn't feel I'm left dangling with no support, there is still a lot of room for movement. So jogging or other exercises requiring up and down movements will need some additional supportive underwear if you don't want things bouncing all over the place down there. But just for hanging around the house or non-jumping activities, the inner liner alone is fine. Only warning, if you do get excited, it will be obvious as the liner has no resistance to hold things close to your body. But it does have decent elastic leg-holes so you don't have to worry about anything falling out and being visible. Even at this size smaller, the leg-hole elastic is not too tight, but it is effective. So at least based on my experience, if you like some bagginess to your shorts, get the size you normally buy. But if you want to have it more snug and less gaps around the legs as it shows in the product picture, go a size down. It should still be comfortable around the waist and leg holes, assuming your thighs aren't unusually large. Your mileage may vary, but I'm very happy with the small size. Comfortable and a perfect fit. My only criticism still remaining is the inner liner, while doing good at keeping my stuff in, offers no real support for running, which is its primary designed purpose. But easily solved by extra underwear. And a reminder to not cut out the liner which will make them even more "see-through" than they are against a back-light, unless that is what you really want.
