China. But I own this knife. And for the price it does its job. **Q: is there a rockwell hardness?** A: I have no idea but would think it is fairly hard in order to hold an edge but not so hard that it is difficult to sharpen. **Q: Is it normal to have a stcky film on t the knife after use?** A: I did not have a sticky film on mine. Also I bought the same one for my father in law and his did not have a sticky film. **Q: What kind of leather is the sheath made of?** A: This particular one has a VERY NICE heavy duty leather/cowhide one. I have to admit that I am a knife snob and unless it's from well known, high-end brand I usually won't buy it. I decided to buy this because I was looking for something a little heavier than the normal chef knife but not as bulky and single minded as a clever, and for 22 bucks this was a cheap way to experiment. I have to admit I was more than pleasantly surprised when I opened the package. This knife is hefty, solidly built, and SHARP! Listen to the other reviews when they say this thing is sharp right out of the box. It processes food quickly and efficiently. As I stated it is hefty, but it never feels unwieldy.
