Amicus Stove with or without Igniter Camping Stove - Superior Under Windy Conditions, Shock Resistant, and Low-cost With High-end Performance Stove

This is a great stove. It has a nice wide 4-post pot support that locks in real solid. It boils fast and is easy to operate. I would not rely on the igniter. The pot it comes with is a respectable pot, lightish, with a decent handle and lid. You can fit a small can of fuel wrapped in a microfiber and the stove inside it.

I really like this little set. I got the 550ml cup and I could boil 500ml of water in about 3 minutes even in cold weather. The cup and lid it came with are very light and rugged. And I liked the built in ignition and flame control valve. The ignition usually takes 2-3 strikes to light so don’t be too concerned if it doesn’t light on the first try. At least with the 550ml, do NOT extend the handles on the cup until the flame is off and you are ready to move it. If you do the cup can become dangerously unbalanced. Speaking of balance, I would highly recommend getting the little snap-on tripod for your butane canister as this system can get wobbly on uneven ground. Also be sure to place your cup in the exact center of the stove or flames can reach out around the bottom of the cup and melt the plastic coating on the handles as happened to mine. They are still perfectly usable, but are just a bit deformed now. For better or worse just as good as the MSR pocket rocket 2 though. Very light. Very reliable. Highly recommended.

This is a great little stove! It's the first tiny stove I've tried so I can't compare it to others, but it boils water quickly and the igniter works great. This and a fuel canister both fit inside my little pot.

Not quite as light as my old Snow Peak, but that one was not self igniting. Also a lot more stable with a pot on top. The tiny bit of extra weight saved time and added convenience. The stove works great, and the flame adjusts nicely. The pot was the one cooking vessel we took on a five-day trek. We used it for light cooking as well as boiling water. The lid is a great feature. Much more stable than the lids on my titanium set, and the slit made it easy to drain the water off pasta. The non-stick surface worked well and stood up to sautéing wild mushrooms.

Should you buy this stove? Well, it depends on what you are going to do with it. If you are an ultra light backpacker or just need a simmering stove, this is the stove for you. It is $25 cheaper than the MSR Pocket Rocket 2 and works just as good if not better. The SOTO has four support arms as opposed to three and is just as easy to use as the PR2. The only caveat is that the SOTO is slightly more noisy than the SOTO. The noise does not bother me at all. If you are long distance backpacker and are going to be out for a week or more or are going to be out in cold, windy weather then a liquid fuel stove such as the MSR Whisper Lite might be a better choice (although it is not a good simmering stove). You must adjust the flame using tank pressure as opposed to an adjustable valve. The SOTO Amicus and MSR PR2 both use an adjustable valve. An 8 oz butane/propane canister will last you about 3 hours, a 4 oz canister an hour and a half which means you will have to pack multiple pressurized canisters if you are going on a long trip. If you have decided to buy this stove, keep in mind that an 8 oz canister will fit in the River Pot but you will have to store it upside down, turn the lid upside down and stow the stove (in it's very nice pouch) in the lid and cinch it all together with the net bag. A 4 oz canister on the other hand will allow you to fit everything in the pot for better protection of the stove itself. I don't want to judge SOTO for how things stow but by the great quality of this product. The MSR PR2 kit will allow for better stowage but in my opinion, it is not really worth the $25 difference in price. After much ado, I finally decided on this one and I am glad I did! It worked perfectly out of the box!

Excellent product. As described

I like the four supports on the burner vs three on many other stoves. Nice and light and compact. Was a bit disappinted in the pot. Sure it's light, but it has a plastic cover so I could not use it over a fire. Maybe I don’t need to but it’s nice to have the option. Seems like it may dent easily but it is very light which is a bonus. Not worth the extra $15 in my opinion, but it works ok on the stove if it is just going to be your only piece. I might just get the stove alone if I had to do it over since I have some other cookware, but the still pot is nice to have. The stove does not fit into the pot with a 230g canister, but the smaller canister would fit with the stove.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: I've gone through 2 other hiking stoves before finding this one. it's size is deceiving. it cooks even faster than the ones that have a bigger span. compact, comes with carrying bag, and starter is still going strong after several camping and picnicking uses

Ho acquistato questo fornello della SOTO anziché quello della MSR perché qualcuno ne elogiava il miglior funzionamento col vento. Ebbene, ho avuto la possibilità di testarlo in una notte ventosa a 2700m di altitudine e il fornello si è comportato egregiamente. Comodissimi i sostegni a incastro per la pentola, che si ripiegano verso il basso e forniscono un buon grip. Io ho cucinato con una Tatonka da 1,6l (anche piena fino all'orlo) e la sostiene bene. Oltretutto, portata al massimo, la fiamma è davvero potente e fa bollire l'acqua molto velocemente. Peso e dimensioni ridottissimi: sta sul palmo di una mano.

Der Soto Amicus ist ein super zuverlässiger und kompakter Gaskocher. Er ist leicht, stabil und bringt Wasser schnell zum Kochen. Die Flamme lässt sich gut regulieren, und auch bei Wind funktioniert er einwandfrei. Perfekt für unterwegs – bin sehr zufrieden!

Bester Brenner überhaupt. Windstabil, zündet schnell, macht ultra schnell heiß (speisen oder Wasser zum Kochen bringen). Und hat kaum Gas Verbrauch.
