U.S. Army Rangers & Special Forces of World War II: Their War in Photos (Schiffer Military History Book)

Excellent resource
If you want a resource book on the first US Commandos - the US Army Rangers- this is it. Chronologically ordered it takes you from the beginnings of the 1st Ranger Bn to the 2nd Provisional or 29th Rangers, their training with the No. 4 Commando to the 2nd and 5th Ranger Bns getting ready for and doing their heroic deeds on D-Day. This book has a very good and complete section dedicated to the 29th Rangers, a personal favorite of mine; they are probably the bravest and least knows heros of WWII. But the story does not end, it continues with excellent information pertaining to the 6th Rangers in the PTO and their incredible rescue of US POW's. Not to mention the Bushmasters and Alamo Scouts.... Period photos, photos of gear and weapons... just a great well put together book! Go for it! Rangers lead the way!

PTO is underrepresented.
this book seems to get alot of praise, which is fine if all you want to read about is the ETO BUT the pacific theater gets scant coverage. Just a few images on the alamo scouts and the 6th rangers. To give a few pages to the "great raid" by the 6th and the scouts at the very end of this book is just wrong! wasn't there any more material out there on the PTO? really? ETO aficionados & historians will love this book but for the pacific, i suggest you look elsewhere.

Outstanding book
This book is mostly a photo album of World War Two era Rangers, OSS units, and the First Special Service Force. Alot of good information on the various units and summaries of their missions. I strongly recommend this book.

Nice book on Rangers
Tobe honest most pictures and information is repetitive if you have other books on this subject but I still recommend it .
