A Gentle Answer: Our 'Secret Weapon' in an Age of Us Against Them

A Gift for This Moment
My word this year is gentle. I have been looking forward to the release of this book as I study and allow the word to impact me. I was amazed again the timing of the book. I knew I would need it when I pre-ordered it forever ago. My reasons had more to do with the upcoming election and some of the heat and frustration I was anticipating but I had no idea I would need this book for so much more. The reminders of building a gentle heart and answer on our knowledge and understanding of God's gentle heart is a profound place to start. The sacred echoes between this and the other book I am marinading in Gentle and Lowly: the Heart of Christ for Sinners and Suffers is amazing. The significance of starting with who we think God is and then chasing after His heart to allow it overflow out of hearts is powerful. If we want to be peacemakers and Kingdom Builders we need to repent of our addiction to outrage and allow Christ to give us His heart of flesh for our heart of stone.I would recommend this book or any of Scott Sauls books. They start on solid theology and make it very applicable and doable. They are very accessible in the communication of their messages. I would recommend getting a hard copy because you will want to mark this book up. So much to think about and share."By responding to the gospel in embodied practices that bring the knowledge of the good news of Jesus' kingship into our imaginations we can then become the kind of people that respond to slights and injuries in a way that resembles the way our Father has responded to our slights and injuries."I received an advanced copy from the publisher.

Like A Salve on An Angry Wound
Scott puts into clear words what has been stirring in my own heart in recent years. Recently, and especially in 2020, I’ve witnessed those I felt were reasonable, level-headed believers descend into hateful, smoking powder kegs for whom the slightest thing causes them to blow, typically on social media. Often, many of my brothers and sisters in Christ can be found on Facebook engaged in circular, echo chambers with like-minded and equally angry individuals whipping themselves into a furor over the latest slight, whether real or not. While so many have made an idol of politics, western ideology, the “good ol’ days,” patriotism and the so-called American dream, Scott reminds us to re-examine how Jesus interacts with those around him. Likewise, I am convicted how easily any of us, especially me, could be pulled into a dark, hate-filled way of thinking. A Gentle Answer is a call for Jesus followers to emulate our Savior, bringing healing and refreshment to those around us.

A timely and important read!
A thoughtful, challenging, and timely book! Saul’s words are drenched in love and honor as he encourages all of us to respond as Jesus did, in direct opposition to the world’s communication. This is a great book to read slowly and really meditate on.

Could Not Be More Timely
I eagerly read each new Scott Sauls book, usually the first week or two after publication. Always challenging with guilting, always encouraging around the Gospel. I don't know another author in his genre that I appreciate more Scott Sauls. This book may be my favorite yet. I don't know if the material is significantly better than the previous books, but the topic could not be more timely. As I watch reds and blues, secular and Christian rage, talking past each other with growing frustration, I have felt a growing helplessness. There are very few real conversations going on in our culture, only fights. And frankly it is feeling harder and harder to know how to jump in and learn or contribute in this moment.Sauls calmly maps out a path that for people who seek to engage in a way that is at once principled but humble. This book is such a balm.

So Timely - a Must Read!
Any book by Scott Sauls is food for your soul, but this book is so much more! For anyone wrestling with questions on how to reach the world today, this is the best read! In today’s outrage culture, it’s often difficult to be heard, even (especially?) if you have a message of peace and hope. But today, we all need that peace and hope more than ever. As Scott Sauls says, “...the gentle answer has nothing to do with being weak. In fact, it requires the deepest, most courageous, and most heroic kind of faith—the kind that is possible only through the gentle and gentling power of Christ himself.” Read this book and be encouraged to be the one who could change the dialog!** The publisher provided me an advance copy, but I loved it so much, I ordered a hard copy for myself! **

A guide for those who want to be a part of healing our divided world...
God’s hand was surely in the writing and release of this book, because A Gentle Answer is what the world needs “for such a time as this.” Scott Sauls challenges us to seek to yield to the Holy Spirit’s work as we strive to truly emulate the bold, courageous but gentle ways of Christ. He not only encourages us to humble ourselves, reject our culture’s methods of engagement and embrace our call to be peacemakers, but provides the tools to accomplish it. Most importantly, Sauls reminds us to let our interactions with others be inspired by God’s ever flowing love, patience, and grace toward us, most beautifully modeled by our Savior Jesus. My book is underlined and highlighted as so many parts convicted and encouraged me. I highly recommend everyone gets a copy of A Gentle Answer. It will make you a better person which will make our world a better place.

Gentle, definitely, powerful, definitely.
Studied with a friend. Very thought provoking and challenged us both in different ways. (Those who vandalise others vandalise themselves, gossip is like porn, anger begets anger) read for yourself and let Holy Spirit reveal stuff. It’s good!

Wow! Did Jesus Really Do That? Yes!
Was Jesus a good teacher or more than that? If He's s a good teacher, can He be a liar? If He's not a liar does He really mean what He says? And what He does? If so, what does that mean for us? Read and find out!

An encouraging read!
A timely reminder of the gentleness of Jesus offered freely to the undeserving…including me. This book will also challenge every follower of Jesus to a posture of gentleness towards others who need it more than they realize. I highly recommend this book.
