I purchased on a whim to follow up on some strange odors in our home office that I thought were due to our dogs. GearLight makes some really great headlamps and flashlights and I had faith that this would not disappoint. Long story short - The light helped to determine that the smell wasn't the dogs, it ended up being a small roof leak causing mold and mildew inside the wall. This light is awesome and my wife accuses me of using my new toy too much. It is bright and we used it this Halloween to illuminate some neon colored items and then I found its true calling and used it to scan our kids bedroom, the bathrooms, the kitchen and more! Then I found the areas where the potty missed, previously unseen messes on the carpet and other things. I probably shouldn't have told my wife, "Hey look at this! You missed another spot while cleaning." as it almost led to a fight. The light is awesome for outdoors too. My son and I did some rock collecting and found a few cool specimens that fluoresced under the black light and even found that LED and CFL lamps light up under the light. We saw the brighteners in our laundry detergent and found that chinchillas don't glow under black light.

I’m rewriting this review. My review speaks of 2 lights THIS ONLY COMES WITH THE BIG ONE- BIG: The light is very much like a bright black light u would use on a wall. It’s very purple very bright. Makes white stand out great. THE PHOTO I SHARED OF A STAIN: WAS TAKEN WITH THE BIG LIGHT THAT THIS REVIEW IS UNDER- IT IS NOT CAT URINE BUT IT IS SOMETHING ON MY WHITE COUCH THAT I CAN NOT SEE WITH THE NAKED EYE. Now my experience: I got this light checking for cat urine even tho it doesn’t state it works for cat urine because some reviews said it would still find it. It did not. It also didn’t find a lot of stains even in my bathroom that I couldn’t already see with the naked eye. It could see laundry soap that I couldn’t see. It didn’t seem to find people urine either. I don’t own a dog. The customer service is AMAZING. The company replaced the product with one that is “more” for what I need.. seems like it’s a “whiter” light. The small one is the one they sent me after- the big one is the one I bought first. So if u r looking for cat urine use the little one I suppose. Also I have medium length carpet. I still have to smell test then part the fibers to find the protein with the light. The cat sprayed on a pile of laundry and the new light didn’t find it there easily either. I barely saw anything at all of at all even when I could smell it so strongly. I don’t think using a light is going to help ME. The company has gone above and beyond to help me find the right product I’m very grateful for that. I’m convinced there just isn’t one that’s gonna spot my cats urine very well. So my sniffer is my best tool.- This review may not help with telling you what the light CAN do but I will tell you this isn’t a light for cat urine and the company is very helpful. If there is a way to reach out to them before you purchase and explain what you need, do it! They will help u find the product u need. I bought this specifically to check for puppy accidents on the carpet, and unfortunately it didn’t work very well for that. The light does turn on and gives off a UV glow, but it wasn’t strong enough to clearly highlight any spots unless I was extremely close and even then it was hard to tell. It might be okay for very basic use, but for pet mess detection on carpets, it didn’t really do the job I needed it to do.

We have 3 dogs, recently moved into a house where the previous owners had pets as well. There was a weird smell in the area of the house that had carpeting and we also noticed our dogs were peeing on the carpet also. We needed a way to determine where we needed to do deep cleaning and the GearLight UV Flashlight Black Light solved that problem. It identified areas that there was no physical evidence in normal light that the carpet had been pissed on. The best way to use it is after the sun has gone down so you have a dark room, point it at the carpet and the areas where you need to deep clean were all highlighted by the black light. We even found some splash marks on the wall that was undetectable.

I use this for checking my coatings on circuit boards. The coating has a UV tracer dye in it. I was using the little UV led on a jewelers loupe, but I was getting pretty tired of having to move it around and be away from other ambient light in our lab. This unit was significantly cheaper than other similar models, so I pick it up. It it pretty awesome. It's bright, throws a big area of light and runs on simple AA batteries. Some of the other units out there use the lithium ion batteries that sort of look like a AA and they require a special charger. I have enough electronics around...last thing I need is another charger. Plus I get nervous of fires, etc. from all these Lithium batteries around and I never charge batteries unattended unless I've watched it several times and feel safe. I've one flashlight that came with a lithium battery and charger it used to get way too hot for my comfort. Overall, this is a good buy. Don't forget to pick up a pair of safety glasses.

Doesn’t work. I was in pitch pitch black house. I have a puppy and know he tinkles everywhere when excited literally didn’t show a thing up except for crisps my son had dropped on the floor

Fostered a Cat that sprayed in the house. I used this UV light to find where he had pissed. Did the job!

Lets you see the dried blood! ...and other bodily fluids. We bought this to find where one of our cats had been spraying and it works well.

Solid construction and works really well to find hornworms and scorpions in the dark ! Not much use as a flashlight, but then that's not what I needed it for.

This is the coolest flashlight ever. My family is going to bring it when we go on trips so we can check our hotel rooms lol
