One Night in Paris: Exciter Tour 2001 [DVD] [2002] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Great Package
Hold on: I do agree with some of these reviews that the vocals are, perhaps, not the best we have heard from DM but this package is INCREDIBLY generous and well put together. The Art Direction from Anton Corbijn is first rate and the extras are brilliant: They include interviews with fans, crew and the band, extra songs- Sister of Night and Surrender (find out how to access this on the DM website!) And it's always fascinating to see how the set changes and how new songs are performed. Interestingly the concert starts slowly- as opposed to the later PLaying The Angel Tour- with an acoustic Dream On and The Dead of Night. The highlight for me was Martin Gore singing it Doesn't Matter Two a rarely performed song with super backdrops which reminded me of Paris, Texas.

Depeche Mode's weakest DVD
This is not Depeche Mode as I recognize them. The reason I, and I presume many others, like the band is for their electronic sound but here the guitar and drums dilute that sound. The female backing singers further weaken any remaining electronics with their uncomplimentary smooth harmonies lending the whole a bland generic 'stadium' sound.I should have guessed that DM's weakest album would result in an equally weak DVD but this is far worse than the Exciter album. To add insult to injury Exciter's best, heaviest track 'I Feel Loved' is not even performed, which is a little bizarre as it was actually a single. Another reason I bought this was for the non-Exciter songs such as 'Black Celebration' but even they are slowed down to fit the smooth vibe. Martin Gore's slow songs are, as ever, still the lowest point (not sure why he insists on putting at least one on every album, surely none can be anyone's favourite DM song?).In short, even fans should avoid this DVD.

One night in Paris
If I could give 10 stars to this movie I would, because it's one of the band's greatest concerts ever. Massive energy and perfect performance! As for the service, it got to my house way before the date expected so I'd say perfect!

Good if you went, but it's not devotional
As a Mode fan for 20 years and having seen them live now 25-30 times, and having bought everything they've ever released I like to think of myself as at least informed. The tour was great. Really, really good. Much more raw than the 'Singles' and 'Devotional'. However the DVD doesn't stack up like it should.Dave vocals are abbreviating words to the point where it seems like he's trying to sing 'in the style of a club singer', a la Vic Reeves. He's just not singing properly and the first few songs suffer this. Hence only 4 starsHaving said that it picks up afterwards and is very very good later on. The Anton Corbijn backdrop films are out of this world, especially 'in your room'.Special features on the DVD are quite nice as well but DM should have released Black Celebration Tour, or Violator. now THEY were tours.

Excellent Exiter Concert
Having seen one of the Exciter shows in Manchester I was concerned as to what this DVD would be like. Anton's previous film of Devotional showed a rather lacking and one dimensional band with a flat sound. This concert however is completely different. Here, Depeche Mode can be seen to be a real band. Complete with a drummer and another Keyboard player the sound that is reproduced is excellent. It is occasionally a little flat like in Breathe, and not as powerful as the version I remember seeing. But despite this, the DVD shows a full, lively concert where the band really seem to be enjoying themselves on stage. The extra features on the second disk are good aswell. I especially liked to be able to watch the full concert projections.Overall, a brilliant live DVD.DM should have done something like this years ago.

DM at their exceptional best!
Excellently captures the live performance and highlights how amazing Depeche Mode are live. Sensational twist on few tracks which sounds so fresh and raw. I went to see this tour in LA and it allowed me to relive that night - this cd is a must for every DM fan, truly exceptional performance and cd.
