I notice that the price seems to be almost a linear function of the surface area rather than the mass. Is the because of the difficulty in finishing?

Probably the surface are has something to do with their pricing, but I am glad the mass is not used, otherwise I would be paying over $600 for 2" cube instead of their asking price of approximately $300 (compared to their 1" cube). Tungsten is quite hard (about 7 in the Moh's hardness scale), but very hard to melt, because of its high melting point, despite they alloyed their tungsten with 5% of iron and nickel. I would say tungsten is relatively difficult to shape, but polishing would not be hard. They just use harder material as abrasives.

Is the cube made of pure Tungsten? (i.e. 99.95% Tungsten)

High purity. They add a little bit of copper and iron to it to make it stronger but not brittle because pure tungsten is very brittle. You'll love it - it's every bit the money. Extremely dense.

Under the details this says aluminum, are both the 2” and the 1” cubes tungsten?

When I purchased the 2" tungsten cube, it came with a 1" cube which was also made of tungsten.

Yes, it is a solid metal cube that weighs 5.2 lb., which is heavy for its size. If a piece of steel of this same size 2"x2"x2" it would only weigh about 2.3 lb.
