My parent's record collection played a big part in the formation my musical tastes. My dad got me interested in South Side Johnny in my preteen years. This was the first time I purchased a South Side Johnny record that wasn't a greatest hits. I really enjoy both albums. I usually suggest an artist's greatest hits to new listeners, but in this case I'd recommend picking up this combo pack.

Please be advised - when you pull up the player to hear music samples, it includes the third album "Hearts of Stone", which is NOT part of this current deal. Included are only the first 2 albums by SSJ - 20 songs on 1 CD. Don't be misled into thinking that you're buying 3 for 1. Perhaps Amazon should revise the music player sample selections to reduce any confusion. Still, this is a good deal and the remastering of the second album is a vast improvement over the original recording - which sounded like you were picking it up over an AM radio station (was that the intent?). You really need to buy "Hearts of Stone", too, to complete the collaborative story with SSJ, Springsteen, and Little Steven.

If you're searching for Southside Johnny albums, you're going to definitely want the first 3, which are not really easily found these days in the US. The best-of is good, but you really owe it to yourself to hear the first 3 records, complete. Since the 3-fer box is out of print, you should pick this cd up (it's a UK import) and then go score a copy of Hearts of Stone (total s/b around $30 all-in) and you'll add three essential Jersey albums to your collection. They're must-hears for fans of Bruce, a testimony to Miami Steve's genius, songwriting & production chops and good taste, and SSJ and the Jukes ain't too shabby live either (if you get a chance to see them).....

Great music; great album but please be aware that this is a single CD that contains music for the two albums: "I Don't Want To Go Home" and "This Time It's For Real". Looking at the description, you'll see LISTEN TO SAMPLES and the way its presented, you're likely to believe you're getting 3 discs (you're not) and that the music on the third disc (from the album "Hearts Of Stone") is included - its not!

I wish these two albums were released separately on CCs " I don't Want To Go Home" is incredible This Time It's For Real not so much. The second album falls flat and is uninspired, especially when compared to the first

One of the all time great groups on their first two albums. It's Rock'n'Roll. It's blues. It's '50s style doo-wop. It's as real as popular music gets.The Miami Horns are tremendous. The guest appearances by the 5 Satins, the Drifters, the Orioles, Lee Dorsey, and Ronnie spector are priceless. I've had the vinyl since the '70s. Now I have them on CD...

The content is great, but the lead vocals are mixed too far down.

If you are looking for a band that brings all the excitement of your first adventure into soul music from New Jersey then this is the album for you. I first saw this band on the Old Grey Whistle Test in the 70s perform I Don't Want To Go Home and bought the album on vinyl. Have now bought this CD and.it is still as good now as it was then. Timeless
