The quality of Aqurain filter appears to be good, the water has a pleasant taste
Ordered these to replace defective Berkey filters... Aquarain Ceramic Filter Elements fit well into the Berkey canister with extra space at top they work well a bit slower than Black Berkey filters but that is expected. The quality of Aqurain filter appears to be good, the water has a pleasant taste, is clean and clear. I would recommend these filters and again the water tastes good.

Aqual Rain is a great system for good tasting clean drinking water
I have two Aqua Rain filter systems and we love them. My son was in the market for a filter so I had one sent to him. These two elements were also for him to upgrade his system to a four filter system.

Unanswered questions about integrity of these filters
My 1-star rating is because there are unanswered questions. I recently received my third set of these filters. (1) The directions now say to first fill the upper chamber with very HOT water. Why the change? Does that mean the previous instructions were incorrect? Or have the filters changed? (2) Even when the gauge for the ceramic filter is not even close to fitting around the filter (which would indicate it's time to replace it), the carbon inside becomes "exhausted." This is unacceptable when using with city water with added chlorine. I live in a small town in the mountains of Panama. The source of the water is excellent but the delivery system is not. Pipes are 2-inch pvc, mostly above ground. They are easily broken, which allows contaminants into the water. The water company doesn't even claim that the water is potable. Most of the time they don't put chlorine in the water, but sometimes they dump some in. With older AquaRain filters, when the gauge does not indicate replacement time, I still get a strong chlorine taste when the carbon is "exhausted." (3) Even if the filters themselves don't need cleaning, the insides of the upper and lower water chambers should be cleaned once a month because slime will grow on the sides and bottoms. I've seen 5 or 6 tiny black pieces of sediment on the bottom of the lower chamber when I clean it. We have black volcanic sand where I live, so that probably indicates contaminants are getting through the filters. (When I clean the chambers, I go ahead and clean the filters, too.) (4) With these new filters, the o-ring would not fit tight. I had to use my old o-rings. Returning items from Panama is difficult/costly, so I will keep these as a secondary system. Today I installed a whole-house UV system and pre-filters for it. Of course that doesn't remove chlorine, so I hope these new AquaRain filters remove chlorine for a longer time. I originally had Berkey filers, but when I was ready to re-order, there were terrible reviews: filters falling apart right away, NO customer service. So I switched to AquaRain. I guess I'll continue to research.

Clean, safe water at pennies per gallon
Easy to install. Sparkling clear, no flavor water! They are shorter than my original filters. The old filters are 8-7/8” tall and the new filters are 7-9/16” tall. They appear to be made of the same materials. The threads are different comparing the old to the new filters. Same diameter, but fine threads on the new filters. So, don’t try to use the old white wing nuts on the new filter threads, they’ll break. Per the manufacturer’s instructions be careful installing the nut on the filter’s thread because the threaded stem will snap off if overtightened. I tightened mine to finger tight and it does not leak. I Installed the oring to the inside of the water tank. Hope this helps.

I love my Aqua Rain filter
Worth every penny. I love my Aqua Rain filter. They last really long too and filter really well. If they slow down it's time to give them a light handed cleaning with the included scrubby and they are good to go.

Good quality, but shorter than the originals
I originally purchased an Aquarain filter with four ceramic elements. While these work and fit into the old holes, they are shorter than the originals, so I am hesitant to fill up the tank fully, as that level would completely cover the filters.

I wrote a review previously for these filters, and ...
I wrote a review previously for these filters, and for some reason Amazon took it down. Despite priming these filters per the company's instructions, the water was undrinkable and tasted extremely bitter.

Outstanding filters!
with my well water that's loaded with iron and minerals, I couldn't drink it without these ceramic gravity flow filters. AND they're environmentally sound using zero electricty. Just two of them last me a year or more. SUPER Product!
