A large collection of technical and historical information.
It presents a compendium of factual information from a variety of sources, primarily Hungarian. It may appeal to the casual history buff more than to a professional historian. The volume appears not to have a general thesis or line of argument on the broader subject of Hungary's role in the Second World War. It is the result many years of hard work by dedicated persons interested in disseminating historical knowledge. There are two major errors in the book. First, the Western powers had NOT accepted the validity of the two territorial Vienna Awards made by Germany and Italy in 1938 and 1940. Second, despite persistent claims made in Hungary, Winston Churchill NEVER had a "special likeness for the Hungarians" in any shape or form. (An interesting article is available on the topic, cited in HUNGARY AND GEOPOLITICS, 1938-1945, (2019), available on Amazon.)If you are interested in the subject, the book presents a large volume of information a person may spend decades reflecting upon, especially if contrasted with other available sources, and checked for accuracy. Give buying it a positive consideration.

too much political fluff
The book is informative, especially since the sources regarding the minor armies of the Axis are few and the Hungarian Army was a minor and episodic appearance on the Eastern front. The information contained in the book is not new or surprising, nor is it the consequence of discovering new archive sources, but it is compiled well. What is disappointing in this book is the authors' constant concern to find easy excuses for the Horthy regime and supports its policy of rehabilitation by the current authoritarian Orban regime in Hungary, supported by the far right. The entire book contains references to Horthy's personal deeds and attempts to justify his policy of supporting Hitler and deporting the Jews from Hungary, which somewhat exceeds the purpose of the volume, namely the military history of the Hungarian army from 1919 to 1945. Although it contains valuable information on military events, frequent digressions on the political situation in the sense of rehabilitating the Horthy regime make reading very frustrating at times. If you ignore this, the book is interesting

Also references would enhance the value of this good book.
Little has been publicized and is available in English about the involvement of the Hungarian army in the Second World War. This book succeeds in filling some of the gaps for the interested reader. Missing are an index and the sizes of the opposing forces on encounters described and the casualties suffered. Also references would enhance the value of this good book.

lots of pictures easy to follow along and read
Magyar warriors volume 1, this book covers this nation armor force in WW2 magnificently, lots of pictures easy to follow along and read. Covers the units and the different types of armor used. The most interesting is the battles as well; these takers fought the Russians tooth and nail. The organization and deployment from training to destruction of units is also worth mentioning. Waiting on vol 2

but down-rated due to the poor quality paper and lacklustre photographic prints
A fascinating read full of detailed facts, dates, names and events. 5* read, but down-rated due to the poor quality paper and lacklustre photographic prints. This was rectified in Volume 2. If / when this Volume 1 gets re-printed, and has better quality paper and photolithographic prints like in Volume 2, I will be buying it again! I hope the authors do Hungarian Flying Aces (WW1 & WW2), and Austro-Hungarian Navy follow-ups ;)

Get this if you have any interest in the Axis Allies!
Both this and Volume 2 do much to fill in the missing information from Leo Niehorster's seminal volume on the Royal Honved. If you want to know how hard it was to fight as one of Hitler's minor allies, without proper logistical and equipment supplies then this book and Volume 2 do an excellent job of informing the reader. Detail is very good and comes highly recommended by me.

The book is interesting, no doubt, especially as ...
The book is interesting, no doubt, especially as there is so little published in English. There are two main issues with it, though:the cover promises a lot, however th equality of pictures inside is vert average, i suppose due to the fact that some are newspaper pictures, others are private snapshots of variable quality-although again so little has been published that it is hard to be too criticalmore importantly, and this is the main issue with the book is that the authors are not professional historians and it shows.the book is lfull of very general statement like-"originally, neither the Hungarians, nor the Germans foresaw the Hungarian participation in the planned invasion of the Soviet Union." page 213; Well this is quite a staement but it is not linked to any source or document.Captioning of pictures is somewhat politically slanted, on page 321 the picture of a Toldi tank entering the village of Teke reads:"....Local ethnic Hungarians, but also Saxons and Rumanians, cheer the soldiers.". Really? What is the basis of such a statement? it stretches the imagination that Saxons and especially Rumanians would "cheer" their new masters. For the high price of the book, I would have also expected to see some color profiles of uniforms, insignia and camo.

Magyar Warriors: The History of the Royal Hungarian Armed Forces, 1919-1945 で述べられています。日本では注目されることも少ないハンガリーですが、第二次大戦にいかに関与したか、その歴史と軍に関して知るには良い本だと思います。 Magyar Warriors: The History of the Royal Hungarian Armed Forces, 1919-1945
