Louisa, lady in waiting : the personal diaries and albums of Louisa, Lady in Waiting to Queen Victoria and Queen Alexandra Hardcover – January 1, 1979

This book contains a behind-the-scenes look at life with Queens Victoria and Alexandra, as seen through the eyes of a high-born lady in waiting. The photos, though plentiful, are a bit muddy; still in most cases they are new to this reviewer. There are fragments of her diaries that are quoted, but for the most part each chapter consists of a page of writing describing that particular year, followed by a number of pages of illustrations. It's much like going through personal photo albums. As a supplemental book about either of the queens, it is useful and deals with the kind of daily situations that usually don't make it into biographies. Also, it's remarkably inexpensive when used.

A beautifully presented album, covering events and personalities in the last years of Victoria's reign, and the brief but glorious reign of Edward VII, interesting photographs and captions .
