Although Cengage/Nat'l Geo markets these books as ESL books (English as a Second Language), they are incredibly helpful for kids with learning problems in reading and writing. The books are clearly structured and the lessons build on knowledge learned in previous chapters. There are no distractions or surpises on the pages. Clear and easy to understand instructions for activities. Vocabulary and grammar lessons are integrated throughout, as is learning to build good sentences. The pages are filled with beautiful photographs.We used this book series through 11th grade to guide our child with ADD and processing issues through the steps of writing a good essay. I highly recommend these books.Understanding the leveling for the series is tricky. I'd recommend starting with Foundations for struggling 3rd and 4th graders.
