Make a Sticky Mess and Watch it Become Art
I received an advanced review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley, and here are my thoughts.First of all, I was immediately attracted by the whimsical characters on the cover. If you like the cover, too, then you will LOVE the contents.Inside, you will find careful, step-by-step instructions (with plenty of photos) that would be easy enough for a child of say, above seven or eight, to read and figure out how to do by themselves, because it is not rocket science. It is stirring up a sticky paste and then applying it to different forms you have made out of cardboard and foil, etc. However, adults should consider giving it a go...there is much fun to be had.If you have a look at the book preview, you will see the projects are mostly "decorative", with some ideas for making planters and also wearable art such as a bracelet, necklace, and a crown. How about making a pet portrait? Or a bird to befriend (or scare) the real birds in your garden?Once you learn the technique, the sky is the limit! And you probably have EVERYTHING you need to get started in papier mache already in your house. If you have flour or cornstarch, cardboard, foil, a utility knife, masking tape....things along those lines are all you need to get started.Papier mache is also a freeing sort of art...people tend to have expectations of a "good" drawing...but as we're not so used to papier mache...this could be just the thing your perfectionist child (or inner child) needs to free them from judgements of not being an artist. Hmm...Lastly, If you found this review helped you to decide whether or not to buy this book, consider giving it a HELPFUL vote. Thanks!

Fun and Inspiring (for serious artists, too)
This book is fun and inspiring! One of the reviews here says it’s “not for serious artists”. I would definitely disagree with this. If you’re a serious artist (I am), you’re not looking for a book that will walk you through how to create a piece that looks just like the pieces the book’s creator has made. You’re looking for inspiration and you’re looking for an explanation of a technique with which you’re not familiar so you can adapt it for your art.I had such fun creating my own pieces of papier-mâché and Sarah’s book helped me do it. It’s not just for kids or people who work with kids, although it would also be great for both.If you want to re-create Sarah’s projects exactly, great! This book will help you do that. If you want to create your own pieces of papier-mâché that look nothing like Sarah’s, great! This book will help you do that, too.If you’re interested in papier-mâché or if you’re an artist who’s interested in stretching her creativity by trying something new, I’d highly recommend this book.

Lovely artist, and wonderful book!
I was lucky enough to find Sarah through her Instagram and attend her book launch make-along. I picked up the book the first week and spent some time reading through and finished a couple of small projects. I found the book very easy to follow and I love the projects - they are so cute and I love the style of the characters. It's great for beginners, kids and artists alike.

Excellent gift, simple but versatile guides, so you can branch out even more!
This is an excellent book! I’m enjoying it so much, I’ve sent it as a gift for friends. I’m really pleased at how easy it is to follow, how adaptable the projects can be and how the materials are inexpensive (or free) and sustainable. What an amazing way to apply your imagination to recycling packaging/recycling materials. The photos and illustrations are beautiful. I especially love all the animals.I’m really looking forward to holiday projects.
