Velcro is of good quality and because of the design, it will accommodate many different sized necks.
There was a time when you could only get an Elizabethian collar from your vet which meant you also had to pay for the visit. Yes, sometimes it's best to take your pet to the doc, but a trip to the vet is not necessary for minor issues. I am happy to see that we can now purchase one of these collars w/o a hefty vet bill. I bought this for my cat. She cleans herself obsessively to the point that she is wet. Not dripping wet, but wet-not just moist. She did it so much in some spots that I could see her bare skin. She had no fleas. I have two other cats who do not do this, so I did not think it was some other type of parasite. Also, she had recently been spayed and given a clean bill of health (no parasites, etc). It may seem weird, but some animals actually do have disorders like OCD, anxiety problems and even depression. (Seriously, there are some cats and dogs on Prozac and other SSRIs). So I thought she might have OCD. I bought this collar to keep her from over cleaning. She did not like it, of course (who would) and tried to get out of it for about 40 minutes. Then she just accepted it. It was a bit difficult for her to eat while wearing it, so I took it off during meal time. She wore it for just over 10 days. During this time, her hair got full, as it was before, and the bare spots grew in. She no longer over cleans herself and hasn't worn the collar since. The collar is made of a semi thick pliable plastic (not too stiff). I can see through it, although not clearly. Idk if cats can as their eyesight is not same as humans. Meaning, peripheral vision will possibly fully blocked. I think that is the main reason she did not like wearing it.The velcro is of good quality and because of the design, it will accommodate many different sized necks. I would recommend this product.

Smaller than described and fragile
I measured my dog's collar before purchase and found it to be 20" long, as worn. Based on this, I purchased the Extra Large size, described as fitting 14 to 21" necks. When I received the collar, the largest it would extend to is 19". It turns out my 20" was conservative, and it barely fit my dog's neck. Beware if your measurement doesn't have the (thick fur) give that mine had.I purchased the collar to prevent my dog from licking her front paws. It was not actually long enough to prevent this, although it did slow her down a bit (she is a labrador retriever). The length should work to prevent licking/biting for most other areas, or for dogs which have shorter neck/head/snout.As with all dogs in Elizabethan collars, mine was running into all sorts of things (like my shins) and on day two, she broke the collar running into a doorway. Running into things with the wider than normal collar should be taken into account in the design. This one just isn't up to use by a 70 lb active dog.To give the collar some credit, the velcro closures worked well. They are fast to open and close and hold well.

Great product - bought another one.
I usually don't give 5 stars to any product because I think there's always room for improvement so don't let the 4 stars deter you from purchasing.I purchased this for my 3 year old husky and it worked like a charm. The collar itself held up but the adhesive for the velcro tore off after a week of wearing. The problem is that I have 2 huskies, and they play rough sometimes. I got the collar because one of the huskies overplayed and bit down too hard. The one that was bit made it worse by scratching the heck out of it so this would prevent her from scratching while the wound is healing. In any case I think the velcro adhesive not holding up was the result of the two knuckleheads clowning around in the backyard while I am at work. If you have a husky, or huskies, I am sure you'd understand.Either way, this collar was probably designed to work on the dog its attached to instead of being used as a tug-o-war tool between two large dogs. Great product, though. Just know what happened to mine will probably happen to you if you have multiple dogs that play hard like mine.

Great E-Collar
I recently adopted a Shih Tzu from the city's dog pound. His skin was pitiful. He is still having some problems with hot spots and/or allergies. I am treating his skin condition, but he would bite and scratch himself constantly and would not let the sores heal. I went to the local pet store to buy an e-collar and was very discouraged at the selection and price of their products. I then went directly to Amazon and found this KONG e-collar. The collar is very simple and the price is right. I have used the collar on my dog constantly for the past two weeks, during the night and during the day or when I am away from home and cannot keep a close eye on my pet. The collar withstands multiple snapping and unsnapping during the day, as he will not eat or take care of his bathroom needs when he is wearing it. The collar is strong, very well made and my pet and I appreciate the soft edges at the neck and outer edges. Also, the collar is clear and I am sure he appreciates that as well. The collar has some openings at the base where it can be attached to the pet's tag/name collar, making it impossible for the pet to slide the e-collar off. I have not used those openings because my pet has never tried to take the collar off. One caveat: my pet is small but long-bodied and he curls up in such a way that he can reach his hind legs to lick. However, he cannot reach his rump, which is where his problem is located. Perhaps if would be even better if the collar would extend an additional inch or so beyond his face. I like this collar so much that I already ordered another one to have as a spare.
