HAZARD 4PonchoVilla MK2: Technical Soft-Shell Poncho - Coyote

Not what I expected
I finally used my poncho today. I have several military ponchos and hiking ponchos and due to the reviews of this one I decided to add this to my collection. It certainly has a tactical look to it and seems to be constructed well. I was intrigued about the "soft shell" feel to this poncho as well. I also liked how it stored inside of itself which was a nice convenient little feature.I give this one star though because it fails at it's main purpose which is to keep me dry. I used it for the first time while outside around my house in a moderately light rain for just under 15 minutes. Every place where there is a seam or stitching soaked through to the tape underneath. There are several places where the water soaked through the taping as well. This might be due to the nature of the thicker, soft fabric. Whatever the reason or situation, it is completely unacceptable for a poncho this expensive to fail in any way in such light conditions.Picture #2 shows the water seeping well past the taped seam at the back of the neck.Picture #3 shows the front of the neck.

If no stars were an option.
Extremely disappointed. Walked in this with my hiking gear and was soaked to the skin in less than an hour.

Started to soak through at seams within 30m
At first glance, this poncho looks "high speed." You get the sense that it'll stand up to anything (as much a testament to the weight as to the obvious thought put into the design). Unfortunately, it fails at its primary purpose: keeping you dry. I tested mine in a sustained downpour here in TX. For the first 30 minutes, I was impressed. And then I felt something moist. A little maneuvering and I noticed a large damp spot starting to creep out from behind the taped seams. I was surprised, but thought it might be an isolated incident, so stayed out to keep testing. After about a total of an hour, I knew the poncho was going back. At just about every point where there was an external seam, water had soaked into the fabric and was spreading out around the interior at the seals. Turning the inside out was one big, damp mess along the seams. Granted, an hour's a long time to be out in the rain... if you're not hiking... or using the poncho as a hooch... or doing just about anything you would want mil-spec gear for. It's kind of sad too, because this is really a sharp-looking poncho. Too bad it's not an effective one. Mine went back.

Awesome...if you NEVER GET WET.
The parameters they want you to address: light weight...yes,until wet...comfort...great until WET! Every seam leaks. All those Velcro placements to put lots and lots of patches...fu”*ing leak. It sucks. Overpriced crap for those with a tactical fetish. I have some of their bags. They should stick with that.

Good, but not perfect
Like many other people said before (and I wish I listened), IT IS NOT 100% WATER PROOF.It leaks at the seams as other people have said before. It started leaking for me after an hour of rain. Fortunately my workaround is a waterproofing spray. Hopefully this works.Other than that, this Poncho looks and feels so good. I dont even mind how big it folds down to!

Excellent poncho!
My buddies have been using this poncho for years now and I finally broke down and bought one. They are extremely comfortable and versatile. I recently used mine on a 4 day camping trip, with rain for 3 of those days and nights. This poncho kept me warm and dry, it didn't get in the way of what I was doing. I would like to see just a slightly larger neck opening as I have a beard and it was slightly bothersome in the neck area. Other than that it was great. Folding up to go back into the integrated pouch was easy to do, and the small form factor when it's in the pouch makes it a no brainer to throw in the truck and leave it there for inclement weather. Definitely worth the money, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one. I only wish I had listen to my buddies and bought one sooner!

This thing ROCKS! The quality is impressive, and the material is heavyweight and highly waterproof, yet breathable so no heat.
This thing ROCKS! The quality is impressive, and the material is heavyweight and highly waterproof, yet breathable so no heat buildup. I've used it for both snow and rain, and it works great for both purposes. My ONLY "comment" is that since it's both black and tactical by design, when you walk into any business keep your hands out and visible. I wore this on a visit to Seattle and I got some really bad reactions from security guards until I figured this one out. Keep the hands outside, and no one even batted an eye.

The perfect over the top kind of pancho
I absolutely didn’t need a $100+ rain pancho but Hazard4 makes great products and I keep this in my truck along with my get home bag. I haven’t needed to use it but I know when I do need it, it’s going to be worth it. Killer product! Don’t buy this if you are trying to stay dry in a mist. It’s heavy and thick and will make you sweat. This is certainly made for more serious and extreme conditions, IMO

Money well spend!!!
I work in the film industry and we spend a lot of time outdoors in all types of weather. Over the years I tried every make of waterproof in the market and I came to realise that none of them will keep you dry for the amount of time that it's needed when you are outside for prolong periods of time. So now I have several sets of waterproofs and since I bought this poncho that I wear over my waterproofs I haven't been wet through to my pants again. It's a great product very well made that does the job. Have to dry it well before I wear it again.

All of the seams leak - ALL OF THEM
upon browsing the entry for the Poncho Villa on the H4 website, an alert user would notice the bold claim that "100% waterproof fully-taped seams throughout " - this, after 20 minutes in moderate rain, proved to be a big fat lie. the seams are taped AND then stitched, handily adding perforations, I guess for breathability... really disappointed in this product. - 5 stars for customer service, as the guys were great!

1000000% WORTH IT IGNORE THE OTHER REVIEWS
Alright so 3 things1. ITS SUPER COMPACT, i take this everywhere I go and honestly I try as much as I can to not leave it at home.Along with this, it FOLDS INTO ITSELF. When you wear it, there is a nice big but out of the way Velcro/zipper pocket on the chest, when you wish to not wear it anymore, you literally for the thing into that pocket and zip it closed. This is probably the coolest thing about this product, there are no “instructions” per say about how to fold it but honestly I shove it in the space and it’s fine, just gotta know how to mess with it after 2 or 3 tries.2. Please ignore ALL other reviews on here, this thing is 100000000% water AND snow proof. I am 6’1” and this thing has the added benefit of going a little past my shins. This poncho will keep your ass WARM, act as a blanket and I used it to lay on while hunting and camping.Don’t mistake this product for being small and cheap, it’s HIGH quality. The material isn’t fabric but it’s not plastic at the same time, not only that the hood is NOT SMALL but it’s not big either. It’s more or less “fitted” but not really since I can wear hats and ushankas under it. It also has draw strings to tighten and loosen the hood AND has a zipper/ Velcro strap on the next to keep your neck protected as well which I SUPER LIKE.3. It’s so very so fashionable. I bought the black one and It goes with literally everything. Everyone always comments on it.Long story short I would trust this thing with MY LIFE and i NEVER leave the house without it. It’s honestly I can say one of the 10 ten things I’ve bought on Amazon. This is WELL WORTH the money you pay, I’m ordering a second one in tan.Waterproof?YesSnowproof?YesReliable?YesHigh quality?YesWorth it?HELL YES

Not Waterproof
The whole purpose of a poncho in my opinion is a lightweight final outer layer to protect you from the rain. A poncho shouldnt be sold if it isnt waterproof. This Poncho if worn out in heavy rain wont do squat. It looks cool, and it keeps you surprisingly warm, but that's only because its thick and heavy. Now the main reason I gave this poncho 2 stars is because of the price. Very overpriced for a poncho that doesn't serve its main purpose. If you dont care about it being not waterproof and you just want to spend a lot of money on something that looks cool, then this product is right for you.
