SHREK=A WHOLE LOTTA FUN
Right off the top, Shrek-the Musical doesn't have the best music but its'entertaining and good enough and is blessed with clever, and slyly witty lyrics. I rated this 5 stars because the overall CD is fun-a whole lotta fun.Brian D'Arcy James as Shrek starts the show with the ironic "Big, Beautiful World" with his powerful voice but my only quibble with him would be that, with his spoken dialogue he sounds to be imitating Mike Myers. Sutton Foster as Fiona is a delight and she has one of those cartoony scenes with the heroine walking through a forest communing with the animals and in the cheerful song "Morning Person" and in the described but unsung antics, she channels her inner ogre.Christopher Seiber as Lord Farquaad,a taller man in his own mind has two funny songs, "What's Up Duloc" and "The Ballad of Farquaad".Daniel Breaker as Donkey has a tough act to follow in Eddie Murphy and I suppose you have to see his portrayal in person to fully appreciate his performance but he shares a duet with The Dragon where the dragon threatens to turn him into "Donkey Pot Pie".Another number that scores is "I Know It's Today" where Princess Fiona along with Young Fiona and Teen Fiona each relate how their lives were shaped by stories they read in fairy tales.Another funny song is "I Think I Got You Beat" where Shrek and Fiona compete with each other about how each of them had a worse life.This CD is highly entertaining and enjoyable and can't wait to see the show and see the antics from both the story and the songs.

BRILLIANT SHOW!
When i heard they had made Shrek into a musical, i thought they were crazy! Although i absolutely loved the movies, a Musical sounded ridiculous. "How can you make SHREK into a Musical??" A Broadway tour, even came to my town, & because of my ignorance, I missed it. Years later, after seeing the DVD of the show, & now owning this music cd, i regret that decision!!!! It is FANtastic!! I absolutely love the music and the show!! I've always loved the story of Shrek, & the songs just make it even more beautiful! You get to understand the characters better. Who knew?? The portrayal of Fiona is HILARIOUS. If you like the Shrek movies, you WILL love the show! I am constantly replaying my favorites: "Who I'd Be" <3, "I Know It's Today, "This Is How A Dream Comes True", "I Think I Got You Beat", "Don't Let Me Go" &... yeahhhhh i basically have the album on repeat. LOVE!

Shrek the Musical CD
The wonders of broadway has again sent out a hit for all to enjoy. Shrek the Musical is pretty true to the original movie but the music has a bit more of the characters to enjoy. Definitly for kids about 8 and over to understand some of the jokes but the sound track is another toe tapping, rib tickling disc of fun to share with the family! My favorite song is the battle between Fiona and Shrek on who has had the worse life so far! Nothing like comparing a flaming hiney to having to boil your chamber pot daily due to lack of a toilet! You'll love the more indept insight of the new inhabitants of the swamp! The whole family will love to keep listening to it over and over again!

So Much Fun!
SUTTON FOSTER. She is just so awesome. This album is worth the purchase if only for her. But all the performances are outstanding. This is not just a kiddie musical! It's hilarious. I bought the DVD of the show recorded on Broadway (I wish they did that more often with other shows!) and then bought the album because it's just so funny. (That recording is on Netflix now, if you're interested!) Great album you can sing along and tap your foot to, but it's got great heart too. Here are my favorite tracks:Don't Let Me GoI Know It's TodayWho I'd BeMorning PersonI Think I Got You BeatWhen Words FailI'm A Believer(but all the songs are great, seriously!)

"This is our story"
After watching the Shrek the Musical movie on Netflix, I kept on humming the songs to myself all the time. So I knew I had to get it. When I listened to the whole soundtrack initially, I noticed a bit of a difference between the recording and movie; but I got over that pretty quickly.I love the songs - well, most of the songs. I tend to fast forward the beginning of "A Big Bright Beautiful World" and just listen to grown-up Shrek at the end. My absolute favorites are "Story of My Life," "Don't Let Me Go," "Donkey Pot Pie," and "I Think I Got You Beat"It the perfect accompaniment to Shrek the musical DVD.

Must have!
I love Musicals, but not being blessed to live near NY, I must console myself with the touring companies that eventually make there way near me and cast recordings. With most cast recordings I have my favorite songs and some that are just "OK" within the album. Not the case with Shrek. I LOVED the whole album. I will listen to it in its entirty. Several times. The songs are quirky, fun and make you want to sing along. The performances are definately Tony worthy. This is a good one if you want to introduce your kids to musical theater. Highly recommended.
