A lightweight, flexible take on the classic 3-eye shoe by Dr. Martens, the Santanita features an elastic panel over the tongue, so it can be worn two ways: laced on, or as an easy slip-on style. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Great for my knees.
These shoes fit a bit tighter than I was expecting but they are fantastic. The arch support doesn’t mess around and the mid part of the shoe is a bit narrow, but other than that I can’t complain.I had a bad slip and fall a few months back and thought I would never walk properly again. I decided to invest in shoes with some good soles and boy do these things grip! They squeak like I’m on a basketball court every so often and I don’t mind in the slightest! The arch support is a bit much for me, but they are removable so that’s a non issue. I wish Doc Martens came in wide widths; I think that contributed to how painful the arch supports were at first.I will note that they CAN give you blisters on the back of your ankle, but that’s only if you don’t wear socks or wear hosiery or something similar. You need to wear decent socks with these, the thicker the better. Be patient with these and they’ll serve you well. I use these whenever I need to do a lot of walking or need to go someplace a bit treacherous. Highly recommended!

Great shoe, great support
Great arch support! I've been having a really hard time with shoes, I wear customized insoles. I needed a shoe that I could wear for long time and walking long distance. This shoes has been great. No specialized insole needed. I'm in between an 8 and 8 1/2. It's still fits a little bit big but I didn't want to risk it and size next size down bc I don't like my shoes too tight since I have a wide foot. Overall this shoe has been great!

Very Uncomfortable! Not true to size!
I really wanted to love these shoes. I really tried, but they are not for the flat footed first off, even if I wasn't flat footed, I could tell that these would still be uncomfortable because they were digging into the sides of my feet. No other shoe has ever done that despite my flat feet. They were narrow, and most definitely not true to size. I would have had to buy a size 7 when I normally buy 9, that is how much off these shoes are.

i love them but i can’t
overall i love the shoe so far but i’ve come across a dilemma. i downsized because from the reviews it sounded like the shoe came in a bit bigger than usual. im usually always a 7 and a half so i went with a 7 for this particular shoe. but it seems like the shoe may be still too big? it fits fine everywhere else except for the space where my heel is (which is what is pictured aboved) the shoes are all around comfortable except for this particular area. because of the make of the shoe the material feels sturdy. but because the shoe may be to big this part cuts into my heel and thats what makes them uncomfortable. should i downsize to a 6? i feel like then it would be too small. maybe these just weren’t meant to be.

Light and stylish
I've owned several pairs of Docs, this pair being my second pair of canvas sneakers. I owned a pair, the Dr. Marten Pressler sneaker, and the sole completely fell to shreds within a few months. Not happy. However, after doing some searching, I noticed that these, the Santanita's, soles are sewn, not glued. I received my Santanita's a few weeks ago, and so far I love them. I will say these fill a little more narrow than any other Dr. Marten I've owned. I'm a true size 11, and have a rather wide foot, but I kept with the tradition of ordering a size smaller than what I normally wear. So these size 10's fit perfectly, albeit slightly more narrow, but it's not uncomfortable, just slightly noticeable. We'll see if these if these hold for my backpacking trip across Europe this summer. I'll surely be logging some miles with these Santanita's!

Comfortable Shoe for Someone Who Usually Struggles to Find Comfortable Shoes
I have wider feet and struggle to find shoes I can walk to work in and wear comfortably throughout the day. This is one of the very few oxfords that were comfortable enough to wear right out of the box. The sole does feel like it needs a bit more padding, but the shoe didn't give me blisters without it. I bought some inserts to try out and will see if it improves the feel of the shoe. I also sometimes have problems with stiff shoe collars/toplines causing blisters and raw skin around my ankles and at the top of my heel, but this wasn't the case here.Since the shoe doesn't come in half sizes, I went half a size up to a size 10US. It does feel a tad bit looser than I would've liked, but tightening the shoestrings keeps my foot in place well enough.Overall, I like this shoe enough that I'm thinking of getting another pair because I know I'm going to wear the current one out within a year or so from over-use.

Love the shoes!
I love these shoes! I used to have the high top ones so I decided to get the low cut ones and they're just as great as the other ones! very comfy! and stylish. Do get 1 size smaller than usual tho. I wear a size 9 but got a 8 and they fit perfect! Love them! Love them!

Molto belle
Molto belle e comode.
