Good kit, lot of room for user error so be careful.
I'm reviewing this *before* I receive the results, just so I can remember my thoughts on the actual collection process. I'll update once I get the results and see if the ultrasound at 20 weeks matches. We have two boys and my husband living in the home so I was really careful about following directions. I figure if it shows girl, then it's really a girl. If it shows boy, I will assume boy but wait to announce until the 20 week ultrasound, just because there's so much possibility for contamination, even following the directions. This isn't the fault of the company, it's more user error (and it would be really easy to have some error, just because this isn't the more effective way of collecting blood without contamination). But here's some thoughts on the collection process:1. I have pretty short nails but I wish I'd cut them really short before doing this. You need to scrub under your nails really well to remove any male DNA.2. Don't skip steps for the prepping the surface you're using or for washing your hands. You're trying to get male DNA off. If you miss scrubbing even a small area of your hand (get between your fingers, etc etc) then you could throw off test results. I also washed the handle on my sink faucet with soap and water, seeing I was touching that during washes (although I tried to not touch it with my hands at all). Touch nothing once you're all washed. This is easier said than done.3. I found that I needed to use two lancets because I clotted much faster from my first try. It made the CLICK and definitely picked me, but the second time was definitely better and made collecting easier. That said, I think I tend to clot fast and I've had this issue at labs/doctors too so I guess I shouldn't have been so surprised.4. Don't forget to rotate your hand so the blood drips into the tube without getting all over your hands.5. It takes quite a bit of time using a lancet to collect all of the blood needed... it's not a lot of blood, it's just such a slow flow.My only concerns with the actual kit was that my collection tube appeared to have a droplet of water inside when I got it. Hopefully that's not an issue. It contains 3 lancets, 3 alcohol pads, a nail scrubber, and a rubber band for your wrist. I wish it had included more alcohol pads.Overall, it's a fairly simple process if you don't mind blood. I don't recommend doing this if you get queasy about blood. You have to draw it standing up and well... you don't want to faint. This is a similar process to what diabetics do to test their blood except you're trying to squeeze more blood out than they do.Attaching some pictures of the directions in case anyone wants to read up first.

Worth the work you have to put in for it!!
Let me preface this with saying the test is a total pain in the ass! I opted to do it at work because they are very clear that no males should have any contact with the test. Well I have a 10 year old son and a husband. Basically everything in my house is covered in male DNA. My office made up of mostly females, plus I figured it would be easier to sanitize my desk that would have minimal male DNA, than have to basically bleach my house. I didn't think that one through... you have to wash your hands twice without touching anything. The bathroom door at my job has a handle. It wasn't easy to maneuver that thing with my elbow.. but I did it (our cleaning person is male and I didn't want to risk it). Then came the fun part.. pricking my finger and collecting the blood. I'm a bleeder.. but for some reason my finger didn't want to bleed.. it may have been that I was being impatient (which is probably most likely). They give you enough supplies to do this 3 times. So I decided I needed to do my ring finger rather than my middle finger. Well that's when the mess came. I thought my middle finger was kind of dried up. Nope. Sure wasn't. As I'm dripping my ring finger the middle finger starts gushing blood. I was dripping blood everywhere.. it was under my nails, on my desk.. everywhere.::: Now that i think about.. I vaguely remember pregnancy brain kicking in and I forgot to take the rubber band off.. I bet I took that band off and that's when I started bleeding like I punctured my jugular :::I was scared that since some of my blood was under my nails, that I ruined the sample. They give you enough supplies to clean and prick your finger (which doesn't hurt), but not to collect. So I was already in too far to start over. I hoped that I sanitized my hands enough to avoid ruining the sample.I did the test at 10 weeks. We got the results back on a Saturday. I sat in bed and sulked all weekend. It said we were having a girl. I really wanted another boy. I made myself get used to the idea and my mom started sending me cute girl stuff. We settled on a name much quicker than we did with son... and also started buying everything girl (and falling in love with the idea that she is a girl). I am 21 weeks now. We went for a sonogram last week and they confirmed it was a girl. We are super excited to welcome her to our family in September :)
