Personal Prayer: A Guide for Receiving the Father's Love

This is a beautiful book. I think I have read hundreds of books on prayer and this is a superb one. The authors deal with the experience of prayer while most other authors talk about it from a dryish angle...if that makes sense. This book touches your heart and opens your eyes to how you can relate to God from right where you are.

The sections on vulnerability, poverty, and the Rosary are worth the price of the book.

I once drove five hours for an hour of spiritual direction from Fr. Tom. It was during an exceptionally challenging time in my life and I couldn't imagine how I could cover all that I needed to discuss with him in such a short time. As I sat down for direction Fr. Tom's rosary beads, as always, passed through his fingers. After 15 minutes of talking I had such a deep tranquility. Everything seemed crystal clear and focused. Fr. Tom asked me what else I wanted to talk about and I was at a loss because everything that seemed so heavy had in an instant become light. That ten hours of driving was more than worth every second. It gave me a lasting peace that sustained me for a long time. I am so grateful that Fr. Tom took the time to see me. And I am so grateful that he and Fr. Boniface, a truly rare and precious soul in this world, took the time to put down for the ages the wisdom God has blessed them with. This work is a treasure.

I recently participated in a young adult book study on Personal Prayer: A Guide to Receiving the Father’s Love. We continue to talk about how lessons learned here have drastically changed our prayer lives—which changes the game for just about everything else in one’s life.Just about anyone can find a way into this book. It’s spiritually substantive, yet very easy to read. The honesty and tenderness of Fr. Thomas and Fr. Boniface is assuring—I found myself reading and saying to myself, “YES! This particular thing happens in prayer ALL THE TIME, and yet, I never hear anyone talk about it!” Both their depth of wisdom (which is profound) and their genuine care for the soul reading and praying with this book made it a moving experience for all of us who read it.It’s become a favorite book to recommend and give as a gift—I hope you get the chance to read it!

Of all the books I have read on prayer, this one is hands down my favorite! Most of the book is highlighted. I frequently recommend this book to people. It is simple, but maybe not for someone at an entry level.

This book is amazing. To the editors: get this book and Fr. Boniface and Fr. Thomas’s other three books on Audible. It is sad to say that so few people read anymore. But many listen to books. Get them on audible!!!

The authors offer here a clear and deep insight into what prayer is. Offering good references and examples from Church fathers, saints,… This is book is definitely worth it.

Wow!! Truly essential reading for anyone wanting to grow deeper in prayer. One of the best books on prayer I have ever read. Up there with Thomas Dubay’s “Fire Within”. Loved it!
