This was a gift for a 4th grader.
My great-grandson asked for a book about history. I read it before I gave it to him and I enjoyed it. He liked it and it was easy reading.

Right amount of information for young kids!
I bought this to supplement History curriculum and wanted a book that a 2nd grader can grasp. The facts are clearly laid out and the content are easy to understand. I would say the information is at right level and amount for young kids to absorb the information. Definitely an interesting book without dry content.

The extras are outstanding, reading is a bit dry, but the art and asides make up for it, 3rd grade+
I loved the dated timeline throughout the book. It's really fantastic and makes following George's life so much more visual and easier for some kids. The Myth vs. Fact is such a great addition. Nearly everyone has heard the myths, but very few people know the facts. The highlighted words and accompanying glossary is really great for book reports and learning new/hard words. The ten questions at the end and the think tank questions are great ways to keep kids thinking about what they've read and how to take it a step farther with critical thinking. The art is bright and fun, and the layout is done well with the aforementioned asides to put natural breaks into the reading.I am concerned that George's father was called Gus in the text, but Augustine in the family tree. This confused my kid, and honestly even me until it clicked.I'm not sure they did justice to the section on slavery. It just can't be properly covered in a kids biography like this. It might actually have been better served shortening it, making it more concise. Most people understand slavery is wrong, and the ones that don't aren't going to be affected by this short explanation of it. I did like that it was included that George freed his slaves in his will. Though this point is made very concisely, which is another reason, I think the earlier section might have benefited from it as well.As a biography this is a bit dry. The kid I talked into reading this did finish it, and liked it, but he wasn't enthusiastic about it. And I admit many times it's hard to get excited about a biography. But like in all good stories we need more show and less tell. I want my kids to be excited about George Washington. Yes, he was flawed, but he was human, and he helped do some truly amazing things for this country. And I'd like to see kids get excited about those things.I'd say 3RD grade and up for this one until it's too easy to read for them. It's got great content, and interesting asides, and will likely make any teacher happy that they read it.
