Product Description 1987 album, the singer/songwriter's first studio album since the release of the multi-platinum world-dominating Born In The U.S.A. Features 'Brilliant Disguise', 'Spare Parts', 'Tougher Than The Rest', 'Tunnel Of Love' and many more. .com After several years at the top of the rock world, Springsteen pulled back the reins on Tunnel of Love--a lot, not just a little. Members of the E Street Band played on the album but seldom in full-band arrangements. Then, too, there are the deeply conflicted songs--"Brilliant Disguise," "Two Faces," "Tunnel of Love," "One Step Up"--that may have been written in response to the imminent failure of his first marriage. There's more to the album than divorce-court play-by-play, however. There's also the raw rocker "Spare Parts," the sprightly "All That Heaven Will Allow," and the bold declaration "Tougher Than the Rest." Overall, these are some of his most thoughtful songs and most intimate performances. --Daniel Durchholz

Pleasantly Different From Previous Efforts
Before Bruce Springsteen's 1987 triumph "Tunnel Of Love," virtually all of his previous material had flawlessly depicted true American life, its struggles (1984's "Born in the USA"), its slums and madness (1982's underappreciated "Nebraska"), and genius studies of its characters (especially 1978's "Darkness on the Edge of Town", along with pretty much of all the Boss's material). But after the phenomenal success of "USA," Springsteen decided to give the portraits of American life and people a breif rest. To quote the Boss himself, "After '85, I'd had enough. I turned inward to write about men, women, and love, things that had previously been on the periphery of my work."The result was "Tunnel of Love," ironically titled and themed, at least when compared to its lyrics--and to those of anything Springsteen had previously done. Though the album's prime theme is love and relationships, etcetera, "Tunnel of Love" does quite an impressive job as not sounding cliched and standard, as in "I love you baby, ooh, ooh..."Pleasantly different from his previous gems; The irony and flawless truth of "Tunnel of Love" blend in perfectly with its concept. Every cut on the album is a highlight, whether in the entire song itself ('Brilliant Disguise,' 'All That Heaven Will Allow,' 'Spare Parts'), or one spectacular moment of the track 'Walk Like a Man, 'Valentine's Day').Personally, I am no fan of "mushy" songs...but "Tunnel of Love" is a definite exception, because of its truth and poetic simplicity. If "Tunnel of Love" can impress a fan of non-lovey dovey music such as myself, it can surely captivate fans drawn to Bruce's more sensitive aspects of his work.

One of the ten best rock/pop albums of all time.
"Tunnel of Love" is not matierial that breaks musical boundaries and it's not meant to be. This is well-crafted, thoughtful, simple music that takes you on a pleasant journey. I've probably listened to this at least once a week since it came out and I never get sick of it. Springsteen has a unique ability to take two or three chords and make a great song out of it (check out "Brilliant Disguise" and "Tougher Than the Rest" to see what I mean). As a musician, I try to learn from this man and realize that more isn't always better. I mean, most of "Brilliant Disguise" is only two chords(!), but the song GRABS you somehow and draws you in. Also, these lyrics about love and relationships are extremely poetic. A must for any serious music collection.

Fat man sitting on a little stool, takes the money from my hand while his eyes take a walk all over you!
Only 1 really great song on here, which is the tittle track, however it was worth it! I am old fashioned and do not use the mpg player! Lost this album to my ex in our divorce, nice to hear it again!!

great album
I really liked this Bruce Springstein album. This was one of his more arty albums. It shows "THE BOSS" isn't just about top 10 pop songs but has real talent. "Spare Parts" and "Ain't got you" are great songs.

Lied: "Tougher Than the Rest".
