Reel is complete crap. fairly good bit of 'resistance' when reeling. I have had other cheap one bearing reels reel way smoother. Rod seems ok, but not worth the money by any means

this combo is definitely in the cheap and cheerful category and nothing special, except for one truly awesome attribute - it just keeps working no matter how many times I drop it in the sand, surf or estuary mud. I have caught salmon, surf perch, sand dabs, huge wads of seaweed, and thrown castable crab traps with it, and nothing has broken yet after 5 years. I just always rinse it well when I get back to the car.
