I taught a homeschooling class on color vision 4 years ago. At the time, I brought in my computer with a program that would separate the red, green, and blue from any photo to demonstrate how our red, green, and blue color cones perceive color. How red and green light combined would make yellow and how all of the colors combined would make white. One very astute little fellow said, “How do I know this isn’t fake? How do I know that they computer people aren’t just lying to us!” Well, that wouldn’t do at all. So I searched for color films and this is what I found. I ended up cutting them all into small squares that would fit over a flashlight to demonstrate additive and subtractive color. Each child would get to take their squares home. They were fascinated to see the red and green lights overlapping on the wall to make yellow and I had my not computerized proof!So here it is in 2021. I’m teaching this class again for a new set of youngsters. Rather than waiting for the inevitable, “How do I know this isn’t fake?” from one of the sharper minds of the class, I set out to get a new set of these color films immediately. I couldn’t find them anywhere! Everything I came across seemed to be rigid plastic, not flexible like this is. The colors seemed all wrong too, not the vibrant colors of this brand. The reviews for those other color films all suggested getting some super expensive brands of legitimate photography color gels, but I’m not a photographer… I just wanted something to use for my class. Thank heavens Amazon keeps your order history forever! I found it in there and it arrived 3 days later. Class was a success! There’s nothing quite like hearing a kid exclaim, “Whoa! That’s so cool!” and they definitely did with these color films. =)

They worked perfectly for what I needed. I used them as cheap makeshift photography gels. Pro tip;)

These filters were exactly what I was looking for to do a subtractive and additive color theory demonstration. The colors are true CMY and red green blue. With the addition of $20 light box and some flashlights I have exactly what I need!
