BELIEVE the reviews - It's THAT GOOD!
Just finishing my Masters in Digital Forensics. Hands on Hacking should have been the textbook for the first course of the program. Matthew and Jennifer have surpassed my expectations with their work. By chapter 3, they're teaching you how to create a virtual lab the way it should be done (sandboxed). By chapter 5, you'll discover the Internet never, ever forgets. I found profiles at sites I created long (in Internet years) ago that I visited once and didn't delete! Then the fun begins as each chapter take you deeper and step-by-step into the mindset, tools and techniques of hacking. One could spend many months online, playing with virtual machines, Raspberry Pi's, and reading other book to just discover a small portion of what the authors clearly explain in 500 or so pages which are easy to comprehend and follow. After reading this book, you'll be past the script kiddie stage, but most importantly you'll understand how hackers think! Whether you're a CISO, pentester (red, purple, or blue), DevOps or OSINT, I believe you'll appreciate this book. Of course, hacking without permission is quite NOT LEGAL, and you will be reminded more than a few times. BUY IT, read and enjoy it, but please don't be stupid with the knowledge you'll gain.

I used a different Linux due to my old computer to use with Linux
if you have a really old 32 bit computer that's available, as I do, you can install and use AntiX linux and rufus to install it on a 32 GB stick, but you will run into other software issues. Stick with a 64 bit computer. Interesting book, but I am just trying to set up a laptop according to the directions. Used Live boot linux downloading the torrent file. Used qbittorrent to download that torrent file into a desktop/linux folder of my choice as an iso file. l Having troubles getting commands like "sudo apt install ufw" on page 34 and "sudo apt install keepassx" on page 35 to work . solution - Needed to run "sudo apt update" before executing those commands. used "sudo apt install keepassxc" since keepassx is out of date. Found every time I needed to start linux , from scratch using the USB stick that I need to type "sudo apt update" into the terminal screen prompt. Also I downloaded on a 128gb stick one live boot file using qbittorrent. Youtube has a nice video about "kali installing live boot using qbittorent" . I also needed to save that file and place it on another USB stick formatted using GPart of linux as a NTFS format and drop my live boot file into that USB folder too, then set up the VM - virtual machine part on page 46 . The linux machine runs off the iso file in the USB stick that you booted to and the 2nd stick also has the same iso file to run a virtual machine

Great book, lots of info, good labs, great for beginners and IT vets.
I really enjoyed the beginning walking through the setup of a hack box beginning to end, and the included lab of vulnerable VM's gives a great way to get actual practice with the techniques presented. Definitely gets you off to a good start in understanding vulnerabilities, exploits and recon to get into pentesting.

Interessant boek
Top!! In het Engels
