Fantastic textbook - but don't limit your reading
An exceptionally clear and understandable book, authored by the King of cancer research. This book covers all of his hallmarks, and may be read individually or you can read it start to finish, since the first few chapters do cover the basics and the later chapters cover the more advanced topics. As other reviewers have pointed out, whilst it is easy to read, sometimes you have to read through a heap of text before you get to the main point. Often, topics begin with discussing the history of the research, which whilst interesting, may not be important. The diagrams are particularly pleasant, and my lecturer uses them regularly in their presentations. For context, I am a final year undergraduate in biomedical sciences, and I've used this book for my Molecular Biology of Cancer module. Due to all the raving reviews, from both the internet and my colleagues, I expected this would be a bit more detailed than it was. If you are a person who needs this book for your studies, you will need to read the primary literature (and reviews) aswell.

Advised
I have not had chance to read the book in its entirety. The chapters that I have raised are affordable and very clear. Both this book, as Bert Vogelstein & Kinzler, are works of reference for excellent support to the study of cancer.

Knowledge and insight.
Robert Weinberg is one of the biggest names in cancer research and this book is the standard work on the subject for a very good reason, he is a brilliant communicator who understands how to make something complex into something accessible without ever compromising the science. Also, with Weinberg [in this book especially] you get something on top of all the knowledge: his own remarkable insight. I wish all the text books I've read were half as good. His short book the 'Renegade Cell' was a masterpiece that is still worth reading even though it is now 10 years old.

Libro stupendo

Buen libro. Mal reparto.
El libro está genial. Pero ha llegado la cubierta algo estropeada. ¡Más cuidado en los repartos!

Absolutely superb!
I hesitated to purchase this book because I couldn't imagine that a scholarly work that deals comprehensively with such a complex subject could be accessible. I thought that it might be useful as a reference but but otherwise unreadable. I pictured a dull book that would be mired in details and filled with jargon. Wrong! At times, the book reads like a detective novel. It develops many topics historically and asks the reader to picture what the scientific community's thoughts and predictions were prior to key experiments and technical innovations. You often get swept up in the story as additional data are introduced. I sometimes found my self trying to guess which of the offered interpretations was the proper one before it gets revealed in the next paragraph. Altogether, Dr. Weinberg is to be commended for performing an almost impossible feat: revealing the details of carcinogenesis and, at the same time telling a fascinating tale of scientific sleuthing. There's more great stuff. The book is beautifully and profusely illustrated. The writing style is clear, to the point, and free of clutter. There's a comprehensive list of abbreviations and gene names in the back. Each chapter ends with a list of key concepts that are worth the price of admission by themselves.I highly recommend the book to those with a reasonable background in molecular biology who want an exciting, fascinating, yet exhaustive take on the biology of cancer.
