Nice kettle that is virtually all-stainless on the inside
I've been looking around at many, many electric kettles trying to find one that does not have any plastic on the inside. Finally I came across this particular model by Cuisinart and after reading such reviews about it decided to purchase it. I must say that it is a very nice kettle that heats up water very quickly. Some have noted that the automatic-off switch stopped working. Mine is about a year old now and the auto-off function is still working fine. The interior is indeed completely stainless. There are 2 plastic pieces hanging on the interior stainless stem/tube that you can remove. They are meant as a guide for the max. water lever, but you really don't need it. I do want to mention that if you leave water in the kettle too long (more than a few hours), it may develop a plastic-like smell/taste that is very similar to what the kettle smells like on the bottom around the plastic base where the heating element is housed. In that respect it is not perfect, but I don't think you're going to find another kettle that will give you less exposure to plastic with boiling water beside a stove-top one. At least there's not a water-level meter built in to the kettle wall that is constantly in contact with water. I use the water instantly and cannot taste any chemicals or plastic, and since I've been using water filtration system and purifiers for well over a decade I can almost always taste chemicals in tap water where others cant tell any difference.UPDATE: I keep it at my office at the university and use it multiple times every weekday (and sometimes weekends as well) for almost three years now. The kettle is still in great shape with no issues whatsoever. One of the best appliance purchases I've ever made.

Elegant and effective
I bought this kettle to replace the second electric kettle that had broken on me (the push button to open the lid broke, then the whole lid broke--I had it duct-taped together and filled it through the spout!). A friend recommended Cuisinart, and at first I was tempted by the jazzier version with all the bells and whistles--this model looked old fashioned by comparison. But the same wise friend pointed out that it is the bells and whistles (like the push button opening lid) that tend to break. She said she had owned several of this basic model, and could not be more pleased with it. And now I understand why. It really is an elegant, if retro, design; it quickly heats the water to a good rolling boil (important for tea drinkers); the simple but effective cord-wrapping base keeps dangling cords out of the way on the counter and when stored; and the high-shin stainless steel maintains its shine even with the world's hardest water.

2 Different Kettles Rusted
Note after 6 months of use: The interior bottom of the kettle is now full of rust. This is the second kettle we've had that rusted...The warranty they offer requires you to pay $10 shipping both for the new unit as well as to ship the old defective unit back. When the original cost of the items is only $56 to begin with, this seems pretty steep when it's their fault the product is faulty anyway. DISSATISFIED.This seems like the best available one out there if you are looking to boil water without exposing it to plastic. There are two small plastic pieces along the vent tube/fill marker that can be removed. However, you want to keep the water level below the little metal nub that would otherwise be hidden under the fill line piece because it seems to rust if exposed to water. We have a little bit of discoloration already (been using about 3 weeks) along the bottom, but that may just be due to our water quality - possibly just mineral scale. It doesn't appear to be actual rust (at least so far).Heats super quickly & efficiently (we were using a stove top kettle on an electric stove prior to this & it's amazing how much faster the water heats than that). We use it multiple times every day and it seems to be holding up well. The on/off switch seems a little "frail" - like if you're not careful it could break off, but we haven't had this issue yet as we haven't found a need to express anger or demonstrate brute strength by forcefully pounding the on-button on the kettle & so far so good :).It looks pretty attractive on the counter top & I read some people are bothered by the inevitable water spots on the chrome finish. That doesn't bother us & it would be easily wiped away with a dry dishtowel if desired.I think there is only one other option that is/can be totally plastic-free on the interior (as far as I was able to find, though many claim that others with obvious interior plastic are plastic-free, & the other one seems to have more issues with rusting, so I would definitely recommend this.

More Chinese garbage for the landfill
Very Disappointed. Like most water boilers these days the hot water touches plastic, absorbs plastic molecules (cancer here we come...) smells like plastic and tastes like plastic. I bought another brand many years ago with no plastic parts and was VERY PLEASED. It still works perfectly (at another house on another island...) But now everything's made in China and cheap and unsafe and plastic. The temptation of The Graduate and we're too far down that steep garden path to claw our way back. Not all of us. I tossed mine in the trash so it could find it's final resting place in the landfill as all Chinese product so quickly do; and now I'm back to boiling my water in a big old stainless steel pot Made in Japan. I think I'm over buying new stuff. Got enough stuff to last this incarnation. Except for books. Buy my book on Amazon.

Exactly what we were looking for - a beauty
We ordered this as a replacement to our original KUA17. We had that one for ten years and it was used several times per day during those ten years. When it finally stopped working my wife wanted the exact same kettle as this model is a beauty. We could not find it in any store so we ordered through Amazon. It took a little while to arrive but everything was perfect. We are very happy to have found the exact model we wanted.

Superb Design - Very User Friendly
My husband and I have used an earlier production of this kettle for maybe 30 years. Although I can't remember exactly when we purchased it, it was a long time ago. It was showing some wear. When we learned that Cuisinart was redesigning the kettle, we purchased the earlier kettle design that we have used for years. It is a great design. We found it through Amazon and were pleased with the purchase.
