Hands-Free Magnifying Glass Large Full-Page Rectangular 3X Magnifier LED Lighted Illuminated Foldable Desktop Portable for Elder

My grandfather has glaucoma and has been gradually losing his sight all his life. He's now 89 but still enjoys reading the paper - when able. I bought this for his birthday and he was quite tickled. Loves: the bright lights, the frame for standing it above the newspaper, and how light weight it is. The only concerns: I wish the legs were more sturdy. There's a random string that's supposed to be for holding it around your neck, but it seems like a complete afterthought. There's also a cord for plugging it in, but it only plugs into a USB (not into the wall) and if you want to use the cord instead of AAA batteries you have to stay close to the power source. We just did the batteries and said "forget it" about the cord. BUT with the batteries it works great and is super transportable!

The item is not what i thought fir what I want to se it fir. The edges is made of plastic and the length not long enough for 15” monitor. It would be good for small project but I believe the legs when you open it still would mot be sufficient .

I prepare hundreds of tax returns every year, and every year the print on W-2s and other tax documents seems to get smaller and smaller. Eye strain is a given in my line of work. It became so frustrating trying to hold a hand held magnifying glass with one hand while trying to type with the other hand... This full page self-standing, lighted magnifier solved the problem. It allows me to clearly see the numbers on the W-2s while at the time typing the information into the tax software. I plug it into the USB port of my computer, for the lighting and fold the two front legs down so I can easily position the documents under the magnifier and view them at an angle on my desk. I keep one on my desk at the tax office and I purchased a second one for my desk at the law office. It is helpful in both places, but helped me the most, by far, when trying to read and type at the same time. This is an excellent product for my purposes, and I am considering purchasing a third to keep on my desk at home.

I had to struggle to open the side of this junk to put in the batteries. It wouldn't open. I tried it repeatedly. Also, no instructions were included. A typical piece of cheap " Made in China" product. I would not buy it again.

Works

I like the magnifier itself with a non flexible frame. BUT, when I tried to open the battery compartment , it broke. I inserted batteries anyway, but the lights will not shine with the broken part taped on. So, must use ithe magnifier without the lights. The "strap" to put around your neck is really a string. No worth the $20 plus price.

It is very lightweight which makes it easily portable. I have used it at home and in my office. My use is doing detail work. I have also used to read fine print. The light is bright and even lighting. The light only works when plugged in. There is no battery. But battery would make it heavier. I find that I only use the light for longer use. It certainly reduces eye fatigue.

Magnification is fine, but no USB port. Legs are very flimsy.
