Hi Thank you for your question. The Revlon Smooth Brilliance Flat Iron is designed with adjustable heat settings. In order to adjust the heat setting to the desired temperature the +/- button located on the side of the handle must be used. Thank you.

Q: Does this hair straightener shut off automatically even while you are straightening your hair? If so does it still straighten the hair efficiently ?

I have never had it shut off while I was straightening my hair. It heats up within about 30 seconds. I usually use it very soon after it is ready. I am very pleased with my purchase. I always unplug when I am done.
