What Is This Heart? is an ambitious 21st century pop album that takes influence from artists as varied as Prince, Lou Reed, Burial and Tracy Chapman – creating and inhabiting its very own hinterland of fragility, sexuality and overwhelming joy.

... the picture on the cover and as with any good R&B, regardless of race
Songs are as soulful and earnest as the picture on the cover and as with any good R&B, regardless of race, lable or style, its just a touch over dramatic...in a totally good way.

Completely mesmerizing. Childhood Faith in Love is particularly awesome. Get it!

Where are the hooks??
I was getting very excited as the singles kept coming out for this album. My brother and I really loved the hook on "Face Again". We'd sing it at the top of lungs in the car. Also "Words I Don't Remember" was certainly a song I could get into. His hiccuping samples overlay as the songs progresses into this explosion of atmospheric sounds and breathy echos. That being said, I finally got my hands on this album and popped it in quickly. Unfortunately after hearing each song other than the ones I mentioned earlier, I felt unfulfilled. HTDW aka Tom Krell's has a great voice and I love hearing him constantly sing on the album, but there's just few too many hooks on this album. After listening to each track, I would think "where was the chorus?" and most songs would just leave me at that. See I usually like to have a hook or something very catchy that will cause me to delve into the lyrics and the meanings of them, but I never really found myself wanting to do that with most of these songs. One exception to that is the the beautifully orchestrated "Pour Cyril".Maybe the album hasn't still sunk in yet, but that's how I'm feeling now.

Didn't know what to expect
Manu Ginobili's debut album is terrific, very spacy but also tightly composed, a real treat to the ears.

Tom's Krell Heart is filled with talent on this album
I am still enjoying this album after 2 years of listening to it. This album was his next step in this most unique and searching artistic trajectory. The result is an ambitious 21st century pop album that creates and inhabits its very own hinterland album that creates and inhabits its very own hinterland of spiritual fragility, fearless love and sexuality, deep pain, and overwhelming joy. It's an album that also celebrates the possible healing power of American pop music in its various guises while also exploding predictable pop conventions and once again asserted him as an artist of great courage, taste and craft. This album delves deeply into the core of the psyche and touches on themes of isolation, loss and existential anguish, but in the end finds something like redemption in the infinite possibilities of love. Its songs tackle feelings of anxiety, fear, lack of control, nightmare, death, pain, pleasure, pride and shame, trust and commitment with an honesty and intimacy that is rare in the contemporary age.

Maybe I'm just fanboying this dude but his whole persona, not just his music, keeps me listening. See You Fall is stunning.
