Highly recommended core textbook
According to the expert reviewers at the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ), this textbook does a good job comprehensively addressing the five key components of early reading instruction (phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension) for future elementary teachers. We recommend it! - highly recommended core textbook - latest edition strengthens vocabulary and comprehension instruction - emphasis on explicit, direct, systematic instructionNCTQ is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit research and policy organization that is committed to ensuring that every child has access to effective teachers and every teacher has the opportunity to become effective. We conduct research to assist states, districts, and teacher prep programs with teacher quality issues. We don’t just call attention to what's wrong, but offer concrete solutions to help solve teacher quality challenges. Pointing out good and bad textbooks used in teacher preparation in reading is one such solution.

A great resource for anywhere literacy is taught.
I purchased this book as a part of my Special Education major, but it is so applicable in the general education setting or any setting where the fundamentals of reading are being taught. It gives insight into the "method behind the madness" sort to speak. It will be a constant reference for me to support student learning and better my instruction. My only suggestion is to the publisher, please bind the book. Loose-leaf lacks a "finished product" look.
