Replacement for Nuvi 255W Battery with Tools - Compatible with GPS Navigator Batteries (1300mAh 3.7V Lithium Polymer)

After reviewing the available info on how to replace the battery, I felt confident it was a job I could do. The tool kit with the battery got the case opened with no problem, and the old battery was removed. It was held in place with an adhesive gel strip, and required some gentle prying to get it out of the case. Luckily I was able to remove the strip and simply attach it to the new battery. Now for the tricky part..... in separating the two parts of the case, I had pulled the connector ribbon from it's socket. Getting the ribbon back in it's socket was a bit of a challenge, as I have big hands/fingers and it's a delicate job. Took two tries, but I got it back in. Put the whole thing back together and it's working fine.

The battery came in condition and by date promised. I put it in my Garmin Nüvi 255w today and charged it up and it is still holding a charge as I am typing this review. I had to watch some YouTube videos on how to open the GPS unit to remove the old battery and install the new one because I had a feeling this was going to be a tedious task(and it was)because there is a very fragile copper ribbon of wire going from the one PC Board itself to where it was plugged into the unit. The battery was plugged in on the underneath of that board and I had to remove the 4 screws that held the board in place and carefully lift that board up to unplug the old battery and plug the new one in(which is what I did)before putting back the 4 screws. I did see a video where you could have carefully unplugged the PC board that the battery was plugged into in order to make things a bit easier, but I choose not to because of the fragileness of the copper ribbon of wire. In the end I was able to successfully remove the old battery and install the new one without damaging the GPS Unit and now everything works like it suppose to.

I was torn between the obligatory five star and a four star. The case opening tools did not survive the experience, including a 1" piece of two sided tape, which forces all customers who don't install car moldind as a profession to buy a two meter roll of the stuff. The lack of instructions cost me dearly, so I will save you all one potentially GPS destroying experience. The original battery is glued in. It really doesn't want to be replaced, and requires some serious prying to free it. Before you start prying, individually cut both the battery leads with a wire cutter. That way, when the battery does eventually pop free, it will not tug the surface mount plug on the circuit board. The battery worked flawlessly, but I was fortunate I have access to surface mount soldering equipment, or I would have destroyed the GPS. If you need a new battery and insist on doing it yourself, this is a good option.

This replacement battery worked perfectly, and saved me from having to replace my GPS. The tools are perfect and the whole job took about 20 minutes. If you don,t want to buy a whole new GPS this is the ticket.

Waste of money and time to install then find out it doesn't last . so dead it won't even stay on when you try to charge it.

Pry tools are too weak. Screw drivers aren't small enough. Garmin Nuvi 255W. Otherwise, would rate higher.

New battery works fine. Everything just as promised. The video on YouTube gave me confidence to take the job. I had some trouble getting the case on my GPS opened and also one screw was stripped so I had to get a man to help me, otherwise this old lady was able to be back on the road again.
