Lantern Is Not as Described
I have had my eye on vintage style lanterns for a long while but I ultimately chose this one because of the inclusion of the remote and the timer, which makes this product unique among lanterns of this general type. I own a lot of LED candles and I thought it would be very much like those — where you have an option to use the timer or "continuous on" (until you turn it off). Apparently, however, this is not the case. The instruction card doesn't say but from re-reading the product description, it is notable that the remote isn't pictured. Consequently, I was surprised to find that unlike my remote-controlled LED flameless candles, there is no timer button on the remote. In revisiting the product page, it reads as if the timer is permanently engaged no matter what method you use to turn on the lantern.Buyers should note that the rotary knob on the front may not behave as expected. I figured that the knob would toggle between flame and white light but there is no such selection to aim it at (white far Left, flame Right sort of thing). Every time it turns on to the white light setting, which is apparently the default. In addition, I see no change in brightness when turning the knob so the knob does not change the brightness or function like a dimmer, either. I was resigned to the fact that the only way to see the desired "flame" setting would be to never lose or misplace my remote with the "flame" button but either by fluke or intent of the design, turning the knob until it hits the "OFF" side — without clicking it over into the OFF position — appears to be the trick to getting the light to change to the flame setting. Now whether this is the way it is supposed to work or not, is unclear (i.e. others' experience with this product may vary). I had to use a magnifying glass to read the tiny instruction card, and the only thing I learned from it that wasn't already indicated in this description is the battery type (CR2025).As to the "flame", it differs from what is shown in the video. In the video, it looks like flames are making contact with the inside of the frosted glass and are creating a kind of rolling effect as they spread. In real life, it is a candle-type flicker with the added appearance of rotation, which makes the light resemble the way a lighthouse operates. Actually that would be kind of cool if it were built to look like a small lighthouse shaped lantern but that is not what was expected in this case. I wanted the realism of the flame shown in the video, which this is NOT.Next, while I must say that it was packaged exceptionally well to protect the contents of the box, the lantern itself is featherlight. With or without frosted glass, it's likely not to survive much of a drop/knock. This impression was only solidified when, after inserting batteries and removing the plastic tab to enable the remote to operate, nothing happened when I pressed "ON". Again nothing happened when I turned the knob to the ON position. I had to twist the assembly a bit, turn it over and push everything in even though the batteries were already snugly installed (no evidence that they were loose). Consequently, I am not sure how well this product will hold up.I bought this to serve was a nightlight in a bathroom in which the fixtures are an "oil rubbed bronze" shade — and the look of the lantern compliments that. Because I have so many sources of ambient light in my home — mostly in the form of battery-operated flameless candles — I have found that it is a necessity that they operate on a timer so that I don't have to remember to every single day to turn them on or to risk running down the batteries because I forgot to switch them off. This lantern looks quite convincing — the finish really does make it look like an antique — but it remains to be seen if it will offer reliable performance. In summary, I wish the product description had been more clear because the vast majority of LED "ambient light" products on the market that come with a remote *also* have the ability to engage on a 24 hour cycle so that that timer can be set once after which the timer engages on a daily basis until the battery is exhausted. With the references in the description to how it will run 14 days on the flame setting using three AA batteries, the suggestion is that it will come on every day at the same time and run for 6 hours. I am not sure if that is will be the case now.UPDATE:Although I am a verified purchaser, Amazon has yet to post my review and when I posted a product question asking whether or not this model actually has the advertised 6 hour timer, Amazon didn't post my question, either.Ultimately, I contacted the seller and was told that this product DOES NOT have the timer function. My initial concern was that perhaps the description or the customer reviews applied to an older (previous) product, hence the confusion. Instead, ABAmerica admitted that this product does not yet have a clearly advertised feature!I have been eyeing these lanterns for a long time, hoping one would come along that works like my flameless candles — to run on a timer. To NOT have this feature when the product description so clearly advertises it, is nothing if not deceptive! While I await my refund, I hope that Amazon will stop "shadow banning" my reviews. As a Prime member and shopper of this website since 1999, I have found over the past year or two that reviews or customer-submitted product questions that could be construed as less favorable are routinely censored. (As an example, I can see this review in my Amazon account — proving that Amazon received it — but instead of posting it they’re “sitting” on my review, a phenomena that has resulted in numerous reviews not going public.) If you're reading this now as an Amazon shopper, the sad reality is that there were probably other buyers who tried to make the same point — that the product does not deliver advertised features — but those reviews are apparently falling through the cracks (“shadow banned”). I don't think the sellers who engage in deceptive product descriptions as a way to give their product a “feature advantage” over similar products deserve this kind of break from Amazon. Customers who are verified should be able to have their reviews show up as a means to help other shoppers — like it's always been here on Amazon up until recently.

Read carefully. Doesn’t come back on.
I was disappointed when I learned that the timer function isn’t what most other similar products have. I’ve had many lamps like this and they come on for 6 or so hours and then turn off and back on in 18 hours. It’s such a nice “set it and forget it” feature. This lantern does not have a 24 hour cycling timer like that.
